Siree Raag, First Mehl, Third House: Amlu kir DrqI bIju sbdo kir sc kI Awb inq dyih pwxI ] (24-1)amal kar Dhartee beej sabdo kar sach kee aab nit deh paanee. Make good deeds the soil, and let the Word of the Shabad be the seed; irrigate it continually with the water of Truth. hoie ikrswxu eImwnu jMmwie lY iBsqu dojku mUVy eyv jwxI ]1] (24-2)ho-ay kirsaan eemaan jammaa-ay lai bhisat dojak moorhay ayv jaanee. ||1|| Become such a farmer, and faith will sprout. This brings knowledge of heaven and hell, you fool! ||1|| mqu jwx sih glI pwieAw ] (24-2)mat jaan seh galee paa-i-aa. Do not think that your Husband Lord can be obtained by mere words. mwl kY mwxY rUp kI soBw iequ ibDI jnmu gvwieAw ]1] rhwau ] (24-3)maal kai maanai roop kee sobhaa it biDhee janam gavaa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o. You are wasting this life in the pride of wealth and the splendor of beauty. ||1||Pause|| AYb qin ickVo iehu mnu mIfko kml kI swr nhI mUil pweI ] (24-3)aib tan chikrho ih man meedko kamal kee saar nahee mool paa-ee. The defect of the body which leads to sin is the mud puddle, and this mind is the frog, which does not appreciate the lotus flower at all. Bauru ausqwdu inq BwiKAw boly ikau bUJY jw nh buJweI ]2] (24-4)bha-ur ustaad nit bhaakhi-aa bolay ki-o boojhai jaa nah bujhaa-ee. ||2|| The bumble bee is the teacher who continually teaches the lesson. But how can one understand, unless one is made to understand? ||2|| AwKxu sunxw paux kI bwxI iehu mnu rqw mwieAw ] (24-5)aakhan sunnaa pa-un kee banee ih man rataa maa-i-aa. This speaking and listening is like the song of the wind, for those whose minds are colored by the love of Maya. Ksm kI ndir idlih pisMdy ijnI kir eyku iDAwieAw ]3] (24-5)khasam kee nadar dilahi pasinday jinee kar ayk Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||3|| The Grace of the Master is bestowed upon those who meditate on Him alone. They are pleasing to His Heart. ||3|| qIh kir rKy pMj kir swQI nwau sYqwnu mqu kit jweI ] (24-6)teeh kar rakhay panj kar saathee naa-o saitaan mat kat jaa-ee. You may observe the thirty fasts, and say the five prayers each day, but 'Satan' can undo them. nwnku AwKY rwih pY clxw mwlu Dnu ikq kU sMijAwhI ]4]27] (24-6)naanak aakhai raahi pai chalnaa maal Dhan kit koo sanji-aahee. ||4||27|| Says Nanak, you will have to walk on the Path of Death, so why do you bother to collect wealth and property? ||4||27|| isrIrwgu mhlw 1 Gru 4 ] (24-7)sireeraag mehlaa 1 ghar 4. Siree Raag, First Mehl, Fourth House: soeI maulw ijin jgu mauilAw hirAw kIAw sMswro ] (24-7)so-ee ma-ulaa jin jag ma-oli-aa hari-aa kee-aa sansaaro. He is the Master who has made the world bloom; He makes the Universe blossom forth, fresh and green. Awb Kwku ijin bMiD rhweI DMnu isrjxhwro ]1] (24-8)aab khaak jin banDh rahaa-ee Dhan sirjanhaaro. ||1|| He holds the water and the land in bondage. Hail to the Creator Lord! ||1|| mrxw mulw mrxw ] (24-8)marnaa mulaa marnaa. Death, O Mullah-death will come, BI krqwrhu frxw ]1] rhwau ] (24-9)bhee kartaarahu darnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o. so live in the Fear of God the Creator. ||1||Pause|| qw qU mulw qw qU kwjI jwxih nwmu KudweI ] (24-9)taa too mulaa taa too kaajee jaaneh naam khudaa-ee. You are a Mullah, and you are a Qazi, only when you know the Naam, the Name of God. jy bhuqyrw piVAw hovih ko rhY n BrIAY pweI ]2] (24-9)jay bahutayraa parhi-aa hoveh ko rahai na bharee-ai paa-ee. ||2|| You may be very educated, but no one can remain when the measure of life is full. ||2|| soeI kwjI ijin Awpu qijAw ieku nwmu kIAw AwDwro ] (24-10)so-ee kaajee jin aap taji-aa ik naam kee-aa aaDhaaro. He alone is a Qazi, who renounces selfishness and conceit, and makes the One Name his Support. hY BI hosI jwie n jwsI scw isrjxhwro ]3] (24-11)hai bhee hosee jaa-ay na jaasee sachaa sirjanhaaro. ||3|| The True Creator Lord is, and shall always be. He was not born; He shall not die. ||3|| pMj vKq invwj gujwrih pVih kqyb kurwxw ] (24-11)panj vakhat nivaaj gujaareh parheh katayb kuraanaa. You may chant your prayers five times each day; you may read the Bible and the Koran. nwnku AwKY gor sdyeI rihE pIxw Kwxw ]4]28] (24-12)naanak aakhai gor saday-ee rahi-o peenaa khaanaa. ||4||28|| Says Nanak, the grave is calling you, and now your food and drink are finished. ||4||28|| isrIrwgu mhlw 1 Gru 4 ] (24-12)sireeraag mehlaa 1 ghar 4. Blky Baukih sdw bieAwil ] (24-13)bhalkay bha-ukahi sadaa ba-i-aal. In the early morning, they continually bark at the wind. kUVu Curw muTw murdwru ] (24-13)koorh chhuraa muthaa murdaar. Falsehood is my dagger; through deception, I eat the carcasses of the dead. Dwxk rUip rhw krqwr ]1] (24-13)Dhaanak roop rahaa kartaar. ||1|| I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||1|| mY piq kI pMid n krxI kI kwr ] (24-14)mai pat kee pand na karnee kee kaar. I have not followed good advice, nor have I done good deeds. hau ibgVY rUip rhw ibkrwl ] (24-14)ha-o bigrhai roop rahaa bikraal. I am deformed and horribly disfigured. qyrw eyku nwmu qwry sMswru ] (24-15)tayraa ayk naam taaray sansaar. Your Name alone, Lord, saves the world. mY eyhw Aws eyho AwDwru ]1] rhwau ] (24-15)mai ayhaa aas ayho aaDhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o. This is my hope; this is my support. ||1||Pause|| muiK inMdw AwKw idnu rwiq ] (24-15)mukh nindaa aakhaa din raat. With my mouth I speak slander, day and night. pr Gru johI nIc snwiq ] (24-15)par ghar johee neech sanaat. I spy on the houses of others-I am such a wretched low-life! kwmu k®oDu qin vsih cMfwl ] (24-16)kaam kroDh tan vaseh chandaal. Unfulfilled sexual desire and unresolved anger dwell in my body, like the outcasts who cremate the dead. Dwxk rUip rhw krqwr ]2] (24-16)Dhaanak roop rahaa kartaar. ||2|| I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||2|| PwhI suriq mlUkI vysu ] (24-16)faahee surat malookee vays. I make plans to trap others, although I appear gentle. hau TgvwVw TgI dysu ] (24-17)ha-o thagvaarhaa thagee days. I am a robber-I rob the world. Krw isAwxw bhuqw Bwru ] (24-17)kharaa si-aanaa bahutaa bhaar. I am very clever-I carry loads of sin. Dwxk rUip rhw krqwr ]3] (24-17)Dhaanak roop rahaa kartaar. ||3|| I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||3|| mY kIqw n jwqw hrwmKoru ] (24-17)mai keetaa na jaataa haraamkhor. I have not appreciated what You have done for me, Lord; I take from others and exploit them. hau ikAw muhu dysw dustu coru ] (24-18)ha-o ki-aa muhu daysaa dusat chor. What face shall I show You, Lord? I am a sneak and a thief. nwnku nIcu khY bIcwru ] (24-18)naanak neech kahai beechaar. Nanak describes the state of the lowly.
