jayhee surat tayhaa tin raahu.
As is their awareness, so is their way.

lyKw ieko Awvhu jwhu ]1] (25-1)
laykhaa iko aavhu jaahu. ||1||
According to the account of our actions, we come and go in reincarnation. ||1||

kwhy jIA krih cqurweI ] (25-1)
kaahay jee-a karahi chaturaa-ee.
Why, O soul, do you try such clever tricks?

lyvY dyvY iFl n pweI ]1] rhwau ] (25-1)
layvai dayvai dhil na paa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Taking away and giving back, God does not delay. ||1||Pause||

qyry jIA jIAw kw qoih ] (25-2)
tayray jee-a jee-aa kaa tohi.
All beings belong to You; all beings are Yours. O Lord and Master,

ikq kau swihb Awvih roih ] (25-2)
kit ka-o saahib aavahi rohi.
how can You become angry with them?

jy qU swihb Awvih roih ] (25-2)
jay too saahib aavahi rohi.
Even if You, O Lord and Master, become angry with them,

qU Enw kw qyry Eih ]2] (25-3)
too onaa kaa tayray ohi. ||2||
still, You are theirs, and they are Yours. ||2||

AsI bolivgwV ivgwVh bol ] (25-3)
asee bolvigaarh vigaarhah bol.
We are foul-mouthed; we spoil everything with our foul words.

qU ndrI AMdir qolih qol ] (25-3)
too nadree andar toleh tol.
You weigh us in the balance of Your Glance of Grace.

jh krxI qh pUrI miq ] (25-3)
jah karnee tah pooree mat.
When one's actions are right, the understanding is perfect.

krxI bwJhu Gty Git ]3] (25-4)
karnee baajhahu ghatay ghat. ||3||
Without good deeds, it becomes more and more deficient. ||3||

pRxviq nwnk igAwnI kYsw hoie ] (25-4)
paranvat naanak gi-aanee kaisaa ho-ay.
Prays Nanak, what is the nature of the spiritual people?

Awpu pCwxY bUJY soie ] (25-4)
aap pachhaanai boojhai so-ay.
They are self-realized; they understand God.

gur prswid kry bIcwru ] (25-5)
gur parsaad karay beechaar.
By Guru's Grace, they contemplate Him;

so igAwnI drgh prvwxu ]4]30] (25-5)
so gi-aanee dargeh parvaan. ||4||30||
such spiritual people are honored in His Court. ||4||30||

too daree-aa-o daanaa beenaa mai machhulee kaisay ant lahaa.
You are the River, All-knowing and All-seeing. I am just a fish-how can I find Your limit?

jh jh dyKw qh qh qU hY quJ qy inksI PUit mrw ]1] (25-6)
jah jah daykhaa tah tah too hai tujh tay niksee foot maraa. ||1||
Wherever I look, You are there. Outside of You, I would burst and die. ||1||

n jwxw myau n jwxw jwlI ] (25-7)
na jaanaa may-o na jaanaa jaalee.
I do not know of the fisherman, and I do not know of the net.

jw duKu lwgY qw quJY smwlI ]1] rhwau ] (25-7)
jaa dukh laagai taa tujhai samaalee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
But when the pain comes, then I call upon You. ||1||Pause||

qU BrpUir jwinAw mY dUir ] (25-8)
too bharpoor jaani-aa mai door.
You are present everywhere. I had thought that You were far away.

jo kCu krI su qyrY hdUir ] (25-8)
jo kachh karee so tayrai hadoor.
Whatever I do, I do in Your Presence.

qU dyKih hau mukir pwau ] (25-8)
too daykheh ha-o mukar paa-o.
You see all my actions, and yet I deny them.

qyrY kMim n qyrY nwie ]2] (25-8)
tayrai kamm na tayrai naa-ay. ||2||
I have not worked for You, or Your Name. ||2||

jyqw dyih qyqw hau Kwau ] (25-9)
jaytaa deh taytaa ha-o khaa-o.
Whatever You give me, that is what I eat.

ibAw dru nwhI kY dir jwau ] (25-9)
bi-aa dar naahee kai dar jaa-o.
There is no other door-unto which door should I go?

nwnku eyk khY Ardwis ] (25-9)
naanak ayk kahai ardaas.
Nanak offers this one prayer:

jIau ipMfu sBu qyrY pwis ]3] (25-10)
jee-o pind sabh tayrai paas. ||3||
this body and soul are totally Yours. ||3||

Awpy nyVY dUir Awpy hI Awpy mMiJ imAwnuo ] (25-10)
aapay nayrhai door aapay hee aapay manjh mi-aano.
He Himself is near, and He Himself is far away; He Himself is in-between.

Awpy vyKY suxy Awpy hI kudriq kry jhwnuo ] (25-10)
aapay vaykhai sunay aapay hee kudrat karay jahaano.
He Himself beholds, and He Himself listens. By His Creative Power, He created the world.

jo iqsu BwvY nwnkw hukmu soeI prvwnuo ]4]31] (25-11)
jo tis bhaavai naankaa hukam so-ee parvaano. ||4||31||
Whatever pleases Him, O Nanak-that Command is acceptable. ||4||31||

keetaa kahaa karay man maan.
Why should the created beings feel pride in their minds?

dayvanhaaray kai hath daan.
The Gift is in the Hands of the Great Giver.

BwvY dyie n dyeI soie ] (25-12)
bhaavai day-ay na day-ee so-ay.
As it pleases Him, He may give, or not give.

kIqy kY kihAY ikAw hoie ]1] (25-12)
keetay kai kahi-ai ki-aa ho-ay. ||1||
What can be done by the order of the created beings? ||1||

Awpy scu BwvY iqsu scu ] (25-13)
aapay sach bhaavai tis sach.
He Himself is True; Truth is pleasing to His Will.

AMDw kcw kcu inkcu ]1] rhwau ] (25-13)
anDhaa kachaa kach nikach. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The spiritually blind are unripe and imperfect, inferior and worthless. ||1||Pause||

jw ky ruK ibrK Awrwau ] (25-13)
jaa kay rukh birakh aaraa-o.
The One who owns the trees of the forest and the plants of the garden

jyhI Dwqu qyhw iqn nwau ] (25-14)
jayhee Dhaat tayhaa tin naa-o.
-according to their nature, He gives them all their names.

Pulu Bwau Plu iliKAw pwie ] (25-14)
ful bhaa-o fal likhi-aa paa-ay.
The Flower and the Fruit of the Lord's Love are obtained by pre-ordained destiny.

Awip bIij Awpy hI Kwie ]2] (25-14)
aap beej aapay hee khaa-ay. ||2||
As we plant, so we harvest and eat. ||2||

kcI kMD kcw ivic rwju ] (25-14)
kachee kanDh kachaa vich raaj.
The wall of the body is temporary, as is the soul-mason within it.

miq AlUxI iPkw swdu ] (25-15)
mat aloonee fikaa saad.
The flavor of the intellect is bland and insipid without the Salt.

nwnk Awxy AwvY rwis ] (25-15)
naanak aanay aavai raas.
O Nanak, as He wills, He makes things right.

ivxu nwvY nwhI swbwis ]3]32] (25-15)
vin naavai naahee saabaas. ||3||32||
Without the Name, no one is approved. ||3||32||

sireeraag mehlaa 1 ghar 5.

ACl ClweI nh ClY nh Gwau ktwrw kir skY ] (25-16)
achhal chhalaa-ee nah chhalai nah ghaa-o kataaraa kar sakai.
The Undeceiveable is not deceived by deception. He cannot be wounded by any dagger.

ijau swihbu rwKY iqau rhY iesu loBI kw jIau tl plY ]1] (25-16)
ji-o saahib raakhai ti-o rahai is lobhee kaa jee-o tal palai. ||1||
As our Lord and Master keeps us, so do we exist. The soul of this greedy person is tossed this way and that. ||1||

ibnu qyl dIvw ikau jlY ]1] rhwau ] (25-17)
bin tayl deevaa ki-o jalai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without the oil, how can the lamp be lit? ||1||Pause||

poQI purwx kmweIAY ] Bau vtI iequ qin pweIAY ] (25-18)
pothee puraan kamaa-ee-ai. bha-o vatee it tan paa-ee-ai.
Let the reading of your prayer book be the oil, and let the Fear of God be the wick for the lamp of this body.

scu bUJxu Awix jlweIAY ]2] (25-18)
sach boojhan aan jalaa-ee-ai. ||2||
Light this lamp with the understanding of Truth. ||2||

iehu qylu dIvw ieau jlY ] (25-18)
ih tayl deevaa i-o jalai.
Use this oil to light this lamp.

kir cwnxu swihb qau imlY ]1] rhwau ] (25-19)
kar chaanan saahib ta-o milai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Light it, and meet your Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||

iequ qin lwgY bwxIAw ] (25-19)
it tan laagai baanee-aa.
This body is softened with the Word of the Guru's Bani;

suKu hovY syv kmwxIAw ] (25-19)
sukh hovai sayv kamaanee-aa.
you shall find peace, doing seva (selfless service).
