ਸਾਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਲਾਲਚ ਬਾਦਿ ॥ साची कार कमावणी होरि लालच बादि ॥ Saachee kaar kamaavṇee hor laalach baaḋ. Practice Truth - other greed and attachments are useless. ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ मारू महला १ ॥ Maaroo mėhlaa 1. Maaroo, First Mehl: ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਦਿ ॥੧॥ बिनु नावै को रसु नही होरि चलहि बिखु लादि ॥१॥ Bin naavæ ko ras nahee hor chalėh bikʰ laaḋ. ||1|| Without the Name, there is no juice; the others depart, loaded with poison. ||1|| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਾਦਿ ॥ इहु मनु साचै मोहिआ जिहवा सचि सादि ॥ Ih man saachæ mohi▫aa jihvaa sach saaḋ. The True Lord has fascinated this mind, and my tongue enjoys the taste of Truth. ਐਸਾ ਲਾਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਕੋ ਸੁਣਿ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥ ऐसा लाला मेरे लाल को सुणि खसम हमारे ॥ Æsaa laalaa méré laal ko suṇ kʰasam hamaaré. I am such a slave of Yours, O my Beloved Lord and Master. ਜਿਉ ਫੁਰਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਚਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जिउ फुरमावहि तिउ चला सचु लाल पिआरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Ji▫o furmaavėh ṫi▫o chalaa sach laal pi▫aaré. ||1|| rahaa▫o. I walk in harmony with Your Command, O my True, Sweet Beloved. ||1||Pause|| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਲੇ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਗੋਲੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੀਰਾ ॥ अनदिनु लाले चाकरी गोले सिरि मीरा ॥ An▫ḋin laalé chaakree golé sir meeraa. Night and day, the slave works for his overlord. ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਵੇਚਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥ गुर बचनी मनु वेचिआ सबदि मनु धीरा ॥ Gur bachnee man véchi▫aa sabaḋ man ḋʰeeraa. I have sold my mind for the Word of the Guru’s Shabad; my mind is comforted and consoled by the Shabad. ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਕਾਟੈ ਮਨ ਪੀਰਾ ॥੨॥ गुर पूरे साबासि है काटै मन पीरा ॥२॥ Gur pooré saabaas hæ kaatæ man peeraa. ||2|| The Perfect Guru is honored and celebrated; He has taken away the pains of my mind. ||2|| ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਧਣੀ ਕੋ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਉ ਵਡਿਆਈਐ ॥ लाला गोला धणी को किआ कहउ वडिआईऐ ॥ Laalaa golaa ḋʰaṇee ko ki▫aa kaha▫o vadi▫aa▫ee▫æ. I am the servant and slave of my Master; what glorious greatness of His can I describe? ਭਾਣੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ भाणै बखसे पूरा धणी सचु कार कमाईऐ ॥ Bʰaaṇæ bakʰsé pooraa ḋʰaṇee sach kaar kamaa▫ee▫æ. The Perfect Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, forgives, and then one practices Truth. ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਕਉ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੩॥ विछुड़िआ कउ मेलि लए गुर कउ बलि जाईऐ ॥३॥ vichʰuṛi▫aa ka▫o mél la▫é gur ka▫o bal jaa▫ee▫æ. ||3|| I am a sacrifice to my Guru, who re-unites the separated ones. ||3|| ਸਾਚੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਤਿ ਫੀਕੀ ॥ साची सुरति सुहावणी मनमुख मति फीकी ॥ Saachee suraṫ suhaavaṇee manmukʰ maṫ feekee. The intuition of those who are true is beautiful; the intellect of the self-willed Manmukh is insipid. ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਚੁ ਧੀਰਕ ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ॥੪॥ मनु तनु तेरा तू प्रभू सचु धीरक धुर की ॥४॥ Man ṫan ṫéraa ṫoo parabʰoo sach ḋʰeerak ḋʰur kee. ||4|| My mind and body belong to You, God; from the very beginning, Truth has been my only support. ||4|| ਲਾਲੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਮਤਿ ਖਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਨੀਕੀ ॥ लाले गोले मति खरी गुर की मति नीकी ॥ Laalé golé maṫ kʰaree gur kee maṫ neekee. The intellect of His servant and slave is noble and true; it is made so by the Guru’s intellect. ਸਾਚੈ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਉਠਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਖਿਆ ॥ साचै बैसणु उठणा सचु भोजनु भाखिआ ॥ Saachæ bæsaṇ utʰ▫ṇaa sach bʰojan bʰaakʰi▫aa. In Truth I sit and stand; I eat and speak the Truth. ਚਿਤਿ ਸਚੈ ਵਿਤੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥ चिति सचै वितो सचा साचा रसु चाखिआ ॥ Chiṫ sachæ viṫo sachaa saachaa ras chaakʰi▫aa. With Truth in my consciousness, I gather the wealth of Truth, and drink the sublime essence of Truth. ਸਾਚੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥੫॥ साचै घरि साचै रखे गुर बचनि सुभाखिआ ॥५॥ Saachæ gʰar saachæ rakʰé gur bachan subʰaakʰi▫aa. ||5|| In the home of Truth, the True Lord protects me; I speak the Words of the Guru’s Teachings with love. ||5|| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਆਲਸੁ ਘਣੋ ਫਾਥੇ ਓਜਾੜੀ ॥ मनमुख कउ आलसु घणो फाथे ओजाड़ी ॥ Manmukʰ ka▫o aalas gʰaṇo faaṫʰé ojaaṛee. The self-willed Manmukh is very lazy; he is trapped in the wilderness. ਫਾਥਾ ਚੁਗੈ ਨਿਤ ਚੋਗੜੀ ਲਗਿ ਬੰਧੁ ਵਿਗਾੜੀ ॥ फाथा चुगै नित चोगड़ी लगि बंधु विगाड़ी ॥ Faaṫʰaa chugæ niṫ chogṛee lag banḋʰ vigaaṛee. He is drawn to the bait, and continually pecking at it, he is trapped; his link to the Lord is ruined. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਿਜ ਤਾੜੀ ॥੬॥ गुर परसादी मुकतु होइ साचे निज ताड़ी ॥६॥ Gur parsaadee mukaṫ ho▫é saaché nij ṫaaṛee. ||6|| By Guru’s Grace, one is liberated, absorbed in the primal trance of Truth. ||6|| ਅਨਹਤਿ ਲਾਲਾ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ अनहति लाला बेधिआ प्रभ हेति पिआरी ॥ Anhaṫ laalaa béḋʰi▫aa parabʰ héṫ pi▫aaree. His slave remains continually pierced through with love and affection for God. ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਜੀਉ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਝੂਠੇ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ॥ बिनु साचे जीउ जलि बलउ झूठे वेकारी ॥ Bin saaché jee▫o jal bala▫o jʰootʰé vékaaree. Without the True Lord, the soul of the false, corrupt person is burnt to ashes. ਬਾਦਿ ਕਾਰਾ ਸਭਿ ਛੋਡੀਆ ਸਾਚੀ ਤਰੁ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੭॥ बादि कारा सभि छोडीआ साची तरु तारी ॥७॥ Baaḋ kaaraa sabʰ chʰodee▫aa saachee ṫar ṫaaree. ||7|| Abandoning all evil actions, he crosses over in the boat of Truth. ||7|| ਲਾਲੈ ਲਾਲਚੁ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ लालै लालचु तिआगिआ पाइआ हरि नाउ ॥ Laalæ laalach ṫi▫aagi▫aa paa▫i▫aa har naa▫o. The Lord’s slave renounces greed and attachment, and obtains the Lord’s Name. ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥ जिनी नामु विसारिआ तिना ठउर न ठाउ ॥ Jinee naam visaari▫aa ṫinaa tʰa▫ur na tʰaa▫o. Those who have forgotten the Naam have no home, no place of rest. ਤੂ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੮॥੪॥ तू बखसहि ता मेलि लैहि नानक बलि जाउ ॥८॥४॥ Ṫoo bakʰsahi ṫaa mél læhi Naanak bal jaa▫o. ||8||4|| If You forgive him, Lord, then He is united with You; Nanak is a sacrifice. ||8||4||
