ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਾ ॥ दरसनु पावा जे तुधु भावा ॥ Ḋarsan paavaa jé ṫuḋʰ bʰaavaa. If I am pleasing to You, Lord, then I obtain the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ मारू महला १ ॥ Maaroo mėhlaa 1. Maaroo, First Mehl: ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ॥ भाइ भगति साचे गुण गावा ॥ Bʰaa▫é bʰagaṫ saaché guṇ gaavaa. In loving devotional worship, O True Lord, I sing Your Glorious Praises. ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੂ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ तुधु भाणे तू भावहि करते आपे रसन रसाइदा ॥१॥ Ṫuḋʰ bʰaaṇé ṫoo bʰaavėh karṫé aapé rasan rasaa▫iḋaa. ||1|| By Your Will, O Creator Lord, You have become pleasing to me, and so sweet to my tongue. ||1|| ਸੋਹਨਿ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥ सोहनि भगत प्रभू दरबारे ॥ Sohan bʰagaṫ parabʰoo ḋarbaaré. The devotees look beautiful in the Darbaar, the Court of God. ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥ मुकतु भए हरि दास तुमारे ॥ Mukaṫ bʰa▫é har ḋaas ṫumaaré. Your slaves, Lord, are liberated. ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ आपु गवाइ तेरै रंगि राते अनदिनु नामु धिआइदा ॥२॥ Aap gavaa▫é ṫéræ rang raaṫé an▫ḋin naam ḋʰi▫aa▫iḋaa. ||2|| Eradicating self-conceit, they are attuned to Your Love; night and day, they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| ਈਸਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਾ ॥ ईसरु ब्रहमा देवी देवा ॥ Eesar barahmaa ḋévee ḋévaa. Shiva, Brahma, gods and goddesses, ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਤਪੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥ इंद्र तपे मुनि तेरी सेवा ॥ Inḋar ṫapé mun ṫéree sévaa. Indra, ascetics and silent sages serve You. ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਨਵਾਸੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ जती सती केते बनवासी अंतु न कोई पाइदा ॥३॥ Jaṫee saṫee kéṫé banvaasee anṫ na ko▫ee paa▫iḋaa. ||3|| Celibates, givers of charity and the many forest-dwellers have not found the Lord’s limits. ||3|| ਵਿਣੁ ਜਾਣਾਏ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ विणु जाणाए कोइ न जाणै ॥ viṇ jaaṇaa▫é ko▫é na jaaṇæ. No one knows You, unless You let them know You. ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਾਹ ਲਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ लख चउरासीह जीअ उपाए भाणै साह लवाइदा ॥४॥ Lakʰ cha▫oraaseeh jee▫a upaa▫é bʰaaṇæ saah lavaa▫iḋaa. ||4|| You created the 8.4 million species of beings; by Your Will, they draw their breath. ||4|| ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪਣ ਭਾਣੈ ॥ जो किछु करे सु आपण भाणै ॥ Jo kichʰ karé so aapaṇ bʰaaṇæ. Whatever is done, is by Your Will. ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ जो तिसु भावै सो निहचउ होवै ॥ Jo ṫis bʰaavæ so nihcha▫o hovæ. Whatever is pleasing to Your Will, undoubtedly comes to pass. ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਏ ਰੋਵੈ ॥ मनमुखु आपु गणाए रोवै ॥ Manmukʰ aap gaṇaa▫é rovæ. The self-willed Manmukh shows off, and comes to grief. ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੁਲਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ नावहु भुला ठउर न पाए आइ जाइ दुखु पाइदा ॥५॥ Naavhu bʰulaa tʰa▫ur na paa▫é aa▫é jaa▫é ḋukʰ paa▫iḋaa. ||5|| Forgetting the Name, he finds no place of rest; coming and going in reincarnation, he suffers in pain. ||5|| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਾਇਆ ਊਜਲ ਹੰਸਾ ॥ निरमल काइआ ऊजल हंसा ॥ Nirmal kaa▫i▫aa oojal hansaa. Pure is the body, and immaculate is the swan-soul; ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਅੰਸਾ ॥ तिसु विचि नामु निरंजन अंसा ॥ Ṫis vich naam niranjan ansaa. within it is the immaculate essence of the Naam. ਭੋਗਹੁ ਰੋਗ ਸੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ ॥ भोगहु रोग सु अंति विगोवै ॥ Bʰogahu rog so anṫ vigovæ. from his enjoyments, he contracts diseases, and in the end, he wastes away. ਬਹੁ ਸਾਦਹੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ बहु सादहु दूखु परापति होवै ॥ Baho saaḋahu ḋookʰ paraapaṫ hovæ. For his excessive indulgences, he receives only pain; ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥ सगले दूख अमृतु करि पीवै बाहुड़ि दूखु न पाइदा ॥६॥ Saglé ḋookʰ amriṫ kar peevæ baahuṛ ḋookʰ na paa▫iḋaa. ||6|| Such a being drinks in all his pains like Ambrosial Nectar; he never suffers sorrow again. ||6|| ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਭਵੈ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ गिआन विहूणी भवै सबाई ॥ Gi▫aan vihooṇee bʰavæ sabaa▫ee. Without spiritual wisdom, they all just wander around. ਹਰਖਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਕਬਹੂ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਭਰਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ हरखहु सोगु न मिटई कबहू विणु भाणे भरमाइदा ॥७॥ Harkʰahu sog na mit▫ee kabhoo viṇ bʰaaṇé bʰarmaa▫iḋaa. ||7|| His pleasure can never erase his pain; without accepting the Lord’s Will, he wanders lost and confused. ||7|| ਸਾਚਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ साचा रवि रहिआ लिव लाई ॥ Saachaa rav rahi▫aa liv laa▫ee. The True Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere, lovingly engaged. ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ निरभउ सबदु गुरू सचु जाता जोती जोति मिलाइदा ॥८॥ Nirbʰa▫o sabaḋ guroo sach jaaṫaa joṫee joṫ milaa▫iḋaa. ||8|| The Fearless Lord is known through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru; one’s light merges into the Light. ||8|| ਅਟਲੁ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥ अटलु अडोलु अतोलु मुरारे ॥ Atal adol aṫol muraaré. He is the eternal, unchanging, immeasurable Lord. ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਢਾਹੇ ਫੇਰਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ॥ खिन महि ढाहे फेरि उसारे ॥ Kʰin mėh dʰaahi fér usaaré. In an instant, He destroys, and then reconstructs. ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ॥੯॥ रूपु न रेखिआ मिति नही कीमति सबदि भेदि पतीआइदा ॥९॥ Roop na rékʰ▫i▫aa miṫ nahee keemaṫ sabaḋ bʰéḋ paṫee▫aa▫iḋaa. ||9|| He has no form or shape, no limit or value. Pierced by the Shabad, one is satisfied. ||9|| ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਉ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਣਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ मंने नाउ सोई जिणि जासी आपे साचु द्रिड़ाइदा ॥१०॥ Manné naa▫o so▫ee jiṇ jaasee aapé saach ḋariṛaa▫iḋaa. ||10|| Whoever believes in the Name, wins; He Himself implants Truth within. ||10|| ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਾਚ ਭਲੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ साधिक साच भले वीचारे ॥ Saaḋʰik saach bʰalé veechaaré. The seekers of Truth and goodness contemplate You. ਹਮ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ हम दासन के दास पिआरे ॥ Ham ḋaasan ké ḋaas pi▫aaré. I am the slave of Your slaves, O my Beloved. ਪਲੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥ पलै साचु सचे सचिआरा ॥ Palæ saach saché sachi▫aaraa. The Truest of the True has the Truth is His lap. ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ साचे भावै सबदु पिआरा ॥ Saaché bʰaavæ sabaḋ pi▫aaraa. The True Lord is pleased with those who love the Shabad. ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਲਾ ਧਰਿ ਥਾਪੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ त्रिभवणि साचु कला धरि थापी साचे ही पतीआइदा ॥११॥ Ṫaribʰavaṇ saach kalaa ḋʰar ṫʰaapee saaché hee paṫee▫aa▫iḋaa. ||11|| Exerting His power, the Lord has established Truth throughout the three worlds; with Truth He is pleased. ||11|| ਵਡਾ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ वडा वडा आखै सभु कोई ॥ vadaa vadaa aakʰæ sabʰ ko▫ee. Everyone calls Him the greatest of the great. ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ गुर बिनु सोझी किनै न होई ॥ Gur bin sojʰee kinæ na ho▫ee. Without the Guru, no one understands Him. ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਏ ਨਾ ਵੀਛੁੜਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ साचि मिलै सो साचे भाए ना वीछुड़ि दुखु पाइदा ॥१२॥ Saach milæ so saaché bʰaa▫é naa veechʰuṛ ḋukʰ paa▫iḋaa. ||12|| The True Lord is pleased with those who merge in Truth; they are not separated again, and they do not suffer. ||12|| ਧੁਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਧਾਹੀ ਰੁੰਨੇ ॥ धुरहु विछुंने धाही रुंने ॥ Ḋʰarahu vichʰuné ḋʰaahee runné. Separated from the Primal Lord, they loudly weep and wail. ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥ आपे करता आपे भुगता ॥ Aapé karṫaa aapé bʰugṫaa. | He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer. ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਪੁੰਨੇ ॥ मरि मरि जनमहि मुहलति पुंने ॥ Mar mar janmėh muhlaṫ punné. They die and die, only to be reborn, when their time has passed. ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮੇਲਿ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥ जिसु बखसे तिसु दे वडिआई मेलि न पछोताइदा ॥१३॥ Jis bakʰsé ṫis ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee mél na pachʰoṫaa▫iḋaa. ||13|| He blesses those whom He forgives with glorious greatness; united with Him, they do not regret or repent. ||13 | ਆਪੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥ आपे त्रिपता आपे मुकता ॥ Aapé ṫaripṫaa aapé mukṫaa. He Himself is satisfied, and He Himself is liberated. ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੀਸਰੁ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ आपे मुकति दानु मुकतीसरु ममता मोहु चुकाइदा ॥१४॥ Aapé mukaṫ ḋaan mukṫeesar mamṫaa moh chukaa▫iḋaa. ||14|| The Lord of liberation Himself grants liberation; He eradicates possessiveness and attachment. ||14|| ਦਾਨਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ दाना कै सिरि दानु वीचारा ॥ Ḋaanaa kæ sir ḋaan veechaaraa. I consider Your gifts to be the most wonderful gifts. ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ करण कारण समरथु अपारा ॥ Karaṇ kaaraṇ samraṫʰ apaaraa. You are the Cause of all causes, Almighty Infinite Lord. ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥ करि करि वेखै कीता अपणा करणी कार कराइदा ॥१५॥ Kar kar vékʰæ keeṫaa apṇaa karṇee kaar karaa▫iḋaa. ||15|| Creating the creation, You gaze upon what You have created; You cause all to do their deeds. ||15|| ਸੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥ से गुण गावहि साचे भावहि ॥ Sé guṇ gaavahi saaché bʰaavėh. They alone sing Your Glorious Praises, who are pleasing to You, O True Lord. ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਹਿ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥ तुझ ते उपजहि तुझ माहि समावहि ॥ Ṫujʰ ṫé upjahi ṫujʰ maahi samaavėh. They issue forth from You, and merge again into You. ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੧੪॥ नानकु साचु कहै बेनंती मिलि साचे सुखु पाइदा ॥१६॥२॥१४॥ Naanak saach kahæ bénanṫee mil saaché sukʰ paa▫iḋaa. ||16||2||14|| Nanak offers this true prayer; meeting with the True Lord, peace is obtained. ||16||2||14||
