ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਰਾਗੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਵੇਦੀ ॥ जूठि न रागीं जूठि न वेदीं ॥ Jootʰ na raageeⁿ jootʰ na véḋeeⁿ. Impurity does not come from music; impurity does not come from the Vedas. ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ सलोक महला १ ॥ Salok mėhlaa 1. Shalok, First Mehl: ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਅੰਨੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਨਾਈ ॥ जूठि न अंनी जूठि न नाई ॥ Jootʰ na annee jootʰ na naa▫ee. Impurity does not come from food; impurity does not come from ritual cleansing baths. ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਭੇਦੀ ॥ जूठि न चंद सूरज की भेदी ॥ Jootʰ na chanḋ sooraj kee bʰéḋee. Impurity does not come from the phases of the sun and the moon. ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਮੀਹੁ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਐ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ॥ जूठि न मीहु वर्हिऐ सभ थाई ॥ Jootʰ na meehu varĥi▫æ sabʰ ṫʰaa▫ee. Impurity does not come from the rain, which falls everywhere. ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਧਰਤੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਾਣੀ ॥ जूठि न धरती जूठि न पाणी ॥ Jootʰ na ḋʰarṫee jootʰ na paaṇee. Impurity does not come from the earth; impurity does not come from the water. ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਉਣੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ जूठि न पउणै माहि समाणी ॥ Jootʰ na pa▫uṇæ maahi samaaṇee. Impurity does not come from the air which is diffused everywhere. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਗੁਰਿਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ नानक निगुरिआ गुणु नाही कोइ ॥ Naanak niguri▫aa guṇ naahee ko▫é. O Nanak! The one who has no Guru, has no redeeming virtues at all. ਮੁਹਿ ਫੇਰਿਐ ਮੁਹੁ ਜੂਠਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ मुहि फेरिऐ मुहु जूठा होइ ॥१॥ Muhi féri▫æ muhu jootʰaa ho▫é. ||1|| Impurity comes from turning one’s face away from God. ||1||
