ਜੀਵਤ ਦੀਸੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਪਰ ਮਰਣਾ ॥ जीवत दीसै तिसु सरपर मरणा ॥ Jeevaṫ ḋeesæ ṫis sarpar marṇaa. One who is seen to be alive, shall surely die. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਇਕਤੁਕੇ ੨ ॥ आसा महला ५ इकतुके २ ॥ Aasaa mėhlaa 5 ikṫuké 2. Aasaa, Fifth Mehl, Ik-Tukas 2: ਮੁਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਹਣਾ ॥੧॥ मुआ होवै तिसु निहचलु रहणा ॥१॥ Mu▫aa hovæ ṫis nihchal rahṇaa. ||1|| But he who is dead shall remain ever-lasting. ||1|| ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਏ ਮੁਏ ਸੇ ਜੀਵੇ ॥ जीवत मुए मुए से जीवे ॥ Jeevaṫ mu▫é mu▫é sé jeevé. Those who die while still alive, shall through this death, live on. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ हरि हरि नामु अवखधु मुखि पाइआ गुर सबदी रसु अमृतु पीवे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Har har naam avkʰaḋʰ mukʰ paa▫i▫aa gur sabḋee ras amriṫ peevé. ||1|| rahaa▫o. They place the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, as medicine in their mouths, and through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they drink the Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause|| ਕਾਚੀ ਮਟੁਕੀ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥ काची मटुकी बिनसि बिनासा ॥ Kaachee matukee binas binaasaa. The clay pot of the body shall be broken. ਜਿਸੁ ਛੂਟੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੨॥ जिसु छूटै त्रिकुटी तिसु निज घरि वासा ॥२॥ Jis chʰootæ ṫarikutee ṫis nij gʰar vaasaa. ||2|| One who has eliminated the three qualities dwells in the home of his inner self. ||2|| ਊਚਾ ਚੜੈ ਸੁ ਪਵੈ ਪਇਆਲਾ ॥ ऊचा चड़ै सु पवै पइआला ॥ Oochaa chaṛæ so pavæ pa▫i▫aalaa. One who climbs high, shall fall into the nether regions of the underworld. ਧਰਨਿ ਪੜੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਕਾਲਾ ॥੩॥ धरनि पड़ै तिसु लगै न काला ॥३॥ Ḋʰaran paṛæ ṫis lagæ na kaalaa. ||3|| One who lies upon the ground, shall not be touched by death. ||3|| ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਫਿਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ भ्रमत फिरे तिन किछू न पाइआ ॥ Bʰarmaṫ firé ṫin kichʰoo na paa▫i▫aa. Those who continue to wander around, achieve nothing. ਸੇ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ से असथिर जिन गुर सबदु कमाइआ ॥४॥ Sé asṫʰir jin gur sabaḋ kamaa▫i▫aa. ||4|| Those who practice the Guru’s Teachings, become steady and stable. ||4|| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੫॥੧੩॥ नानक गुर मिलि भए निहाल ॥५॥१३॥ Naanak gur mil bʰa▫é nihaal. ||5||13|| O Nanak! Meeting the Guru, I am enraptured. ||5||13|| ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਾਲੁ ॥ जीउ पिंडु सभु हरि का मालु ॥ Jee▫o pind sabʰ har kaa maal. This body and soul all belong to the Lord.
