ਜਿਨੑੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥ जिन्ही नामु विसारिआ दूजै भरमि भुलाई ॥ Jinĥee naam visaari▫aa ḋoojæ bʰaram bʰulaa▫ee. Those who have forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are deluded by doubt and duality. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ आसा महला १ ॥ Aasaa mėhlaa 1. Aasaa, First Mehl: ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਜੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ बिनु नावै किउ छूटीऐ जे जाणै कोई ॥ Bin naavæ ki▫o chʰootee▫æ jé jaaṇæ ko▫ee. Without the Name, how can one be emancipated? Who knows this? ਮੂਲੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਡਾਲੀ ਲਗੇ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਛਾਈ ॥੧॥ मूलु छोडि डाली लगे किआ पावहि छाई ॥१॥ Mool chʰod daalee lagé ki▫aa paavahi chʰaa▫ee. ||1|| Those who abandon the roots and cling to the branches, shall obtain only ashes. ||1|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ गुरमुखि होइ त छूटीऐ मनमुखि पति खोई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Gurmukʰ ho▫é ṫa chʰootee▫æ manmukʰ paṫ kʰo▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o. One who becomes Gurmukh is emancipated; the self-willed Manmukhs lose their honor. ||1||Pause|| ਜਿਨੑੀ ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਭਾਈ ॥ जिन्ही एको सेविआ पूरी मति भाई ॥ Jinĥee éko sévi▫aa pooree maṫ bʰaa▫ee. Those who serve the One Lord become perfect in their understanding, O Siblings of Destiny. ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥ आदि जुगादि निरंजना जन हरि सरणाई ॥२॥ Aaḋ jugaaḋ niranjanaa jan har sarṇaa▫ee. ||2|| The Lord’s humble servant finds Sanctuary in Him, the Immaculate One, from the very beginning, and throughout the ages. ||2|| ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ॥ साहिबु मेरा एकु है अवरु नही भाई ॥ Saahib méraa ék hæ avar nahee bʰaa▫ee. My Lord and Master is the One; there is no other, O Siblings of Destiny. ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੇ ਪਰਥਾਈ ॥੩॥ किरपा ते सुखु पाइआ साचे परथाई ॥३॥ Kirpaa ṫé sukʰ paa▫i▫aa saaché parṫʰaa▫ee. ||3|| By the Grace of the True Lord, celestial peace is obtained. ||3|| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਕੇਤੀ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥ गुर बिनु किनै न पाइओ केती कहै कहाए ॥ Gur bin kinæ na paa▫i▫o kéṫee kahæ kahaa▫é. Without the Guru, no one has obtained Him, although many may claim to have done so. ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਵਾਟੜੀਂ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੪॥ आपि दिखावै वाटड़ीं सची भगति द्रिड़ाए ॥४॥ Aap ḋikʰaavæ vaatṛeeⁿ sachee bʰagaṫ driṛ▫aa▫é. ||4|| He Himself reveals the Way, and implants true devotion within. ||4|| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜੇ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਭੀ ਉਝੜਿ ਜਾਏ ॥ मनमुखु जे समझाईऐ भी उझड़ि जाए ॥ Manmukʰ jé samjaa▫ee▫æ bʰee ujʰaṛ jaa▫é. Even if the self-willed Manmukh is instructed, he stills goes into the wilderness. ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਛੂਟਸੀ ਮਰਿ ਨਰਕ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੫॥ बिनु हरि नाम न छूटसी मरि नरक समाए ॥५॥ Bin har naam na chʰootsee mar narak samaa▫é. ||5|| Without the Lord’s Name, he shall not be emancipated; he shall die, and sink into hell. ||5|| ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਭਰਮਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵੈ ॥ जनमि मरै भरमाईऐ हरि नामु न लेवै ॥ Janam maræ bʰarmaa▫ee▫æ har naam na lévæ. He wanders through birth and death, and never chants the Lord’s Name. ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵੈ ॥੬॥ ता की कीमति ना पवै बिनु गुर की सेवै ॥६॥ Ṫaa kee keemaṫ naa pavæ bin gur kee sévæ. ||6|| He never realizes his own value, without serving the Guru. ||6|| ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੭॥ आपि करे किसु आखीऐ वेखै वडिआई ॥७॥ Aap karé kis aakʰee▫æ vékʰæ vadi▫aa▫ee. ||7|| He Himself acts; who else should be mentioned? He beholds His own greatness. ||7|| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ गुर की सेवा सो करे जिसु आपि कराए ॥ Gur kee sévaa so karé jis aap karaa▫é. He alone serves the Guru, whom the Lord Himself inspires to do so. ਜੇਹੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਈਐ ਕਰਣੀ ਭੀ ਸਾਈ ॥ जेही सेव कराईऐ करणी भी साई ॥ Jéhee sév karaa▫ee▫æ karṇee bʰee saa▫ee. Whatever service the Lord causes us to do, that is just what we do. ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੇ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੮॥੧੮॥ नानक सिरु दे छूटीऐ दरगह पति पाए ॥८॥१८॥ Naanak sir ḋé chʰootee▫æ ḋargėh paṫ paa▫é. ||8||18|| O Nanak! Offering his head, one is emancipated, and honored in the Court of the Lord. ||8||18||
