ਸਚਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ सचा सउदा हरि नामु है सचा वापारा राम ॥ Sachaa sa▫uḋaa har naam hæ sachaa vaapaaraa raam. The True merchandise is the Lord’s Name. This is the true trade. ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ वडहंसु महला ३ ॥ vad▫hans mėhlaa 3. Wadahans, Third Mehl: ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਣਜੀਐ ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ गुरमती हरि नामु वणजीऐ अति मोलु अफारा राम ॥ Gurmaṫee har naam vaṇjee▫æ aṫ mol afaaraa raam. Under Guru’s Instruction, we trade in the Lord’s Name; its value is very great. ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਸਚ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਸਚਿ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ अति मोलु अफारा सच वापारा सचि वापारि लगे वडभागी ॥ Aṫ mol afaaraa sach vaapaaraa sach vaapaar lagé vadbʰaagee. The value of this true trade is very great; those who are engaged in the true trade are very fortunate. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ अंतरि बाहरि भगती राते सचि नामि लिव लागी ॥ Anṫar baahar bʰagṫee raaṫé sach naam liv laagee. Inwardly and outwardly, they are imbued with devotion, and they enshrine love for the True Name. ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ नदरि करे सोई सचु पाए गुर कै सबदि वीचारा ॥ Naḋar karé so▫ee sach paa▫é gur kæ sabaḋ veechaaraa. One who is blessed with the Lord’s Favor, obtains Truth, and reflects upon the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੈ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ नानक नामि रते तिन ही सुखु पाइआ साचै के वापारा ॥१॥ Naanak naam raṫé ṫin hee sukʰ paa▫i▫aa saachæ ké vaapaaraa. ||1|| O Nanak! Those who are imbued with the Name find peace; they deal only in the True Name. ||1|| ਹੰਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ਰਾਮ ॥ हंउमै माइआ मैलु है माइआ मैलु भरीजै राम ॥ Haⁿ▫umæ maa▫i▫aa mæl hæ maa▫i▫aa mæl bʰareejæ raam. Egotistical involvement in Maya is filth; Maya is overflowing with filth. ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਰਾਮ ॥ गुरमती मनु निरमला रसना हरि रसु पीजै राम ॥ Gurmaṫee man nirmalaa rasnaa har ras peejæ raam. Under Guru’s Instruction, the mind is made pure and the tongue tastes the subtle essence of the Lord. ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ रसना हरि रसु पीजै अंतरु भीजै साच सबदि बीचारी ॥ Rasnaa har ras peejæ anṫar bʰeejæ saach sabaḋ beechaaree. The tongue tastes the subtle essence of the Lord, and deep within, the heart is drenched with His Love, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਖੂਹਟਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭਰਿਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਪੀਐ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥ अंतरि खूहटा अमृति भरिआ सबदे काढि पीऐ पनिहारी ॥ Anṫar kʰoohtaa amriṫ bʰari▫aa sabḋé kaadʰ pee▫æ panihaaree. Deep within, the well of the heart is overflowing with the Lord’s Ambrosial Nectar; the water-carrier draws and drinks in the water of the Shabad. ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥ जिसु नदरि करे सोई सचि लागै रसना रामु रवीजै ॥ Jis naḋar karé so▫ee sach laagæ rasnaa raam raveejæ. One who is blessed with the Lord’s favor is attuned to the Truth; with his tongue, he chants the Lord’s Name. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥੨॥ नानक नामि रते से निरमल होर हउमै मैलु भरीजै ॥२॥ Naanak naam raṫé sé nirmal hor ha▫umæ mæl bʰareejæ. ||2|| O Nanak! Those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are immaculate. The others are full of the filth of egotism. ||2|| ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜੋਤਕੀ ਸਭਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕੂਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ पंडित जोतकी सभि पड़ि पड़ि कूकदे किसु पहि करहि पुकारा राम ॥ Pandiṫ joṫkee sabʰ paṛ paṛ kookḋé kis pėh karahi pukaaraa raam. All the religious scholars and astrologers read and study, and argue and shout. Who are they trying to teach? ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ माइआ मोहु अंतरि मलु लागै माइआ के वापारा राम ॥ Maa▫i▫aa moh anṫar mal laagæ maa▫i▫aa ké vaapaaraa raam. The filth of attachment to Maya clings to their hearts; they deal in Maya alone. ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਜਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ माइआ के वापारा जगति पिआरा आवणि जाणि दुखु पाई ॥ Maa▫i▫aa ké vaapaaraa jagaṫ pi▫aaraa aavaṇ jaaṇ ḋukʰ paa▫ee. They love to deal with Maya in this world; coming and going, they suffer with pain. ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ बिखु का कीड़ा बिखु सिउ लागा बिस्टा माहि समाई ॥ Bikʰ kaa keeṛaa bikʰ si▫o laagaa bistaa maahi samaa▫ee. The worm of poison is addicted to poison; it is immersed in manure. ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਇ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ जो धुरि लिखिआ सोइ कमावै कोइ न मेटणहारा ॥ Jo ḋʰur likʰi▫aa so▫é kamaavæ ko▫é na métaṇhaaraa. He does what is preordained for him; no one can erase his destiny. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੂਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ नानक नामि रते तिन सदा सुखु पाइआ होरि मूरख कूकि मुए गावारा ॥३॥ Naanak naam raṫé ṫin saḋaa sukʰ paa▫i▫aa hor moorakʰ kook mu▫é gaavaaraa. ||3|| O Nanak! Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, lasting peace is found; the ignorant fools die screaming. ||3|| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ माइआ मोहि मनु रंगिआ मोहि सुधि न काई राम ॥ Maa▫i▫aa mohi man rangi▫aa mohi suḋʰ na kaa▫ee raam. Their minds are colored by emotional attachment to Maya; because of this emotional attachment, they do not understand. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ गुरमुखि इहु मनु रंगीऐ दूजा रंगु जाई राम ॥ Gurmukʰ ih man rangee▫æ ḋoojaa rang jaa▫ee raam. The soul of the Gurmukh is imbued with the Lord’s Love; the love of duality departs. ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥ दूजा रंगु जाई साचि समाई सचि भरे भंडारा ॥ Ḋoojaa rang jaa▫ee saach samaa▫ee sach bʰaré bʰandaaraa. The love of duality departs, and the soul merges in Truth; the warehouse is overflowing with Truth. ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਇਕਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੫॥ नानक विणु नावै भरमि भुलाइआ इकि नामि रते रंगु लाए ॥४॥५॥ Naanak viṇ naavæ bʰaram bʰulaa▫i▫aa ik naam raṫé rang laa▫é. ||4||5|| O Nanak! Without the Name, one is deluded by doubt; but some, imbued with the Name, enshrine love for the Lord. ||4||5|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ गुरमुखि होवै सोई बूझै सचि सवारणहारा ॥ Gurmukʰ hovæ so▫ee boojʰæ sach savaaraṇhaaraa. One who becomes Gurmukh, comes to understand; the Lord embellishes him with Truth. ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ आपे मेले सो हरि मिलै होरु कहणा किछू न जाए ॥ Aapé mélé so har milæ hor kahṇaa kichʰoo na jaa▫é. He alone merges with the Lord, whom the Lord causes to merge; nothing else can be said or done.
