ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਪਿਆਸ ॥ जिउ मीना बिनु पाणीऐ तिउ साकतु मरै पिआस ॥ Ji▫o meenaa bin paaṇee▫æ ṫi▫o saakaṫ maræ pi▫aas. Like a fish without water is the faithless cynic, who dies of thirst. ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ सोरठि महला १ ॥ Soratʰ mėhlaa 1. Sorat’h, First Mehl: ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰੀਐ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਜੋ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਵੈ ਸਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ तिउ हरि बिनु मरीऐ रे मना जो बिरथा जावै सासु ॥१॥ Ṫi▫o har bin maree▫æ ré manaa jo birṫʰaa jaavæ saas. ||1|| So, shall you die, O mind, without the Lord, as your breath goes in vain. ||1|| ਮਨ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਇ ॥ मन रे राम नाम जसु लेइ ॥ Man ré raam naam jas lé▫é. O mind, chant the Lord’s Name, and praise Him. ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਹਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ बिनु गुर इहु रसु किउ लहउ गुरु मेलै हरि देइ ॥ रहाउ ॥ Bin gur ih ras ki▫o laha▫o gur mélæ har ḋé▫é. Rahaa▫o. Without the Guru, how will you obtain this juice? The Guru shall unite you with the Lord. ||Pause|| ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ संत जना मिलु संगती गुरमुखि तीरथु होइ ॥ Sanṫ janaa mil sangṫee gurmukʰ ṫiraṫʰ ho▫é. For the Gurmukh, meeting with the Society of the Saints is like making a pilgrimage to a sacred shrine. ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ अठसठि तीरथ मजना गुर दरसु परापति होइ ॥२॥ Atʰsatʰ ṫiraṫʰ majnaa gur ḋaras paraapaṫ ho▫é. ||2|| The benefit of bathing at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage is obtained by the Blessed Vision of the Guru’s Darshan. ||2|| ਜਿਉ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਤਪੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥ जिउ जोगी जत बाहरा तपु नाही सतु संतोखु ॥ Ji▫o jogee jaṫ baahraa ṫap naahee saṫ sanṫokʰ. Like the Yogi without abstinence, and like penance without truth and contentment, ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦੋਖੁ ॥੩॥ तिउ नामै बिनु देहुरी जमु मारै अंतरि दोखु ॥३॥ Ṫi▫o naamæ bin ḋéhuree jam maaræ anṫar ḋokʰ. ||3|| So is the body without the Lord’s Name; death will slay it, because of the sin within. ||3|| ਸਾਕਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ साकत प्रेमु न पाईऐ हरि पाईऐ सतिगुर भाइ ॥ Saakaṫ parém na paa▫ee▫æ har paa▫ee▫æ saṫgur bʰaa▫é. The faithless cynic does not obtain the Lord’s Love; the Lord’s Love is obtained only through the True Guru. ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੭॥ सुख दुख दाता गुरु मिलै कहु नानक सिफति समाइ ॥४॥७॥ Sukʰ ḋukʰ ḋaaṫaa gur milæ kaho Naanak sifaṫ samaa▫é. ||4||7|| One who meets with the Guru, the Giver of pleasure and pain, says Nanak, is absorbed in the Lord’s Praise. ||4||7||
