ਇਹ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਕੋਈ ॥ इह जगि मीतु न देखिओ कोई ॥ Ih jag meeṫ na ḋékʰi▫o ko▫ee. In this world, I have not found a true friend. ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥ सोरठि महला ९ ॥ Soratʰ mėhlaa 9. Sorat’h, Ninth Mehl: ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ਅਪਨੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਦੁਖ ਮੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ सगल जगतु अपनै सुखि लागिओ दुख मै संगि न होई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Sagal jagaṫ apnæ sukʰ laagi▫o ḋukʰ mæ sang na ho▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o. The whole world is attached to its own pleasures, and when trouble comes, no one is with you. ||1||Pause|| ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਸਗਰੇ ਧਨ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ दारा मीत पूत सनबंधी सगरे धन सिउ लागे ॥ Ḋaaraa meeṫ pooṫ sanbanḋʰee sagré ḋʰan si▫o laagé. Wives, friends, children and relatives - all are attached to wealth. ਜਬ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਨਰ ਕਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਭ ਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ जब ही निरधन देखिओ नर कउ संगु छाडि सभ भागे ॥१॥ Jab hee nirḋʰan ḋékʰi▫o nar ka▫o sang chʰaad sabʰ bʰaagé. ||1|| When they see a poor man, they all forsake his company and run away. ||1|| ਕਹਂਉ ਕਹਾ ਯਿਆ ਮਨ ਬਉਰੇ ਕਉ ਇਨ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾਇਓ ॥ कहंउ कहा यिआ मन बउरे कउ इन सिउ नेहु लगाइओ ॥ Kahooⁿ kahaa yi▫aa man ba▫uré ka▫o in si▫o néhu lagaa▫i▫o. So, what should I say to this crazy mind, which is affectionately attached to them? ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਸਕਲ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਜਸੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਓ ॥੨॥ दीना नाथ सकल भै भंजन जसु ता को बिसराइओ ॥२॥ Ḋeenaa naaṫʰ sakal bʰæ bʰanjan jas ṫaa ko bisraa▫i▫o. ||2|| The Lord is the Master of the meek, the Destroyer of all fears, and I have forgotten to praise Him. ||2|| ਸੁਆਨ ਪੂਛ ਜਿਉ ਭਇਓ ਨ ਸੂਧਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਤਨੁ ਮੈ ਕੀਨਉ ॥ सुआन पूछ जिउ भइओ न सूधउ बहुतु जतनु मै कीनउ ॥ Su▫aan poochʰ ji▫o bʰa▫i▫o na sooḋʰa▫o bahuṫ jaṫan mæ keen▫o. Like a dog’s tail, which will never straighten out, the mind will not change, no matter how many things are tried. ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਜ ਬਿਰਦ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਹਾਰਉ ਲੀਨਉ ॥੩॥੯॥ नानक लाज बिरद की राखहु नामु तुहारउ लीनउ ॥३॥९॥ Naanak laaj biraḋ kee raakʰo naam ṫuhaara▫o leen▫o. ||3||9|| Says Nanak, please, Lord, uphold the honor of Your innate nature; I chant Your Name. ||3||9||
