ਹਿੰਦੂ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਆਵੈ ॥ हिंदू कै घरि हिंदू आवै ॥ Hinḋoo kæ gʰar hinḋoo aavæ. The Hindu comes to the house of a Hindu. ਮਃ ੧ ॥ मः १ ॥ Mėhlaa 1. First Mehl: ਸੂਤੁ ਪਾਇ ਕਰੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ॥ सूतु पाइ करे बुरिआई ॥ Sooṫ paa▫é karé buri▫aa▫ee. He puts on the thread, but does evil deeds. ਨਾਤਾ ਧੋਤਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ नाता धोता थाइ न पाई ॥ Naaṫaa ḋʰoṫaa ṫʰaa▫é na paa▫ee. His cleansings and washings will not be approved. ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ मुसलमानु करे वडिआई ॥ Musalmaan karé vadi▫aa▫ee. The Muslim glorifies his own faith. ਸੂਤੁ ਜਨੇਊ ਪੜਿ ਗਲਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ सूतु जनेऊ पड़ि गलि पावै ॥ Sooṫ jané▫oo paṛ gal paavæ. He puts the sacred thread around his neck and reads the scriptures. ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰੈ ਕੋ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ विणु गुर पीरै को थाइ न पाई ॥ viṇ gur peeræ ko ṫʰaa▫é na paa▫ee. Without the Guru or a spiritual teacher, no one is accepted. ਰਾਹੁ ਦਸਾਇ ਓਥੈ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥ राहु दसाइ ओथै को जाइ ॥ Raahu ḋasaa▫é oṫʰæ ko jaa▫é. They may be shown the way, but only a few go there. ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਭਿਸਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ करणी बाझहु भिसति न पाइ ॥ Karṇee baajʰahu bʰisaṫ na paa▫é. Without the karma of good actions, heaven is not attained. ਜੋਗੀ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦਸਾਈ ॥ जोगी कै घरि जुगति दसाई ॥ Jogee kæ gʰar jugaṫ ḋasaa▫ee. The Way of Yoga is demonstrated in the Yogi’s monastery. ਤਿਤੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕਨਿ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਈ ॥ तितु कारणि कनि मुंद्रा पाई ॥ Ṫiṫ kaaraṇ kan munḋraa paa▫ee. They wear earrings to show the way. ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਇ ਫਿਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥ मुंद्रा पाइ फिरै संसारि ॥ Munḋraa paa▫é firæ sansaar. Wearing earrings, they wander around the world. ਜਿਥੈ ਕਿਥੈ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ जिथै किथै सिरजणहारु ॥ Jiṫʰæ kiṫʰæ sirjaṇhaar. The Creator Lord is everywhere. ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਵਾਟਾਊ ॥ जेते जीअ तेते वाटाऊ ॥ Jéṫé jee▫a ṫéṫé vaataa▫oo. There are as many travelers as there are beings. ਚੀਰੀ ਆਈ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਕਾਊ ॥ चीरी आई ढिल न काऊ ॥ Cheeree aa▫ee dʰil na kaa▫oo. When one’s death warrant is issued, there is no delay. ਏਥੈ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੁ ਜਾਇ ਸਿਞਾਣੈ ॥ एथै जाणै सु जाइ सिञाणै ॥ Éṫʰæ jaaṇæ so jaa▫é siñaaṇæ. One who knows the Lord here, realizes Him there as well. ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ सभना का दरि लेखा होइ ॥ Sabʰnaa kaa ḋar lékʰaa ho▫é. Everyone’s account is read in the Court of the Lord; ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ सचो सचु वखाणै कोइ ॥ Sacho sach vakʰaaṇæ ko▫é. One who speaks the True Name of the True Lord, ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ करणी बाझहु तरै न कोइ ॥ Karṇee baajʰahu ṫaræ na ko▫é. without the karma of good actions, no one crosses over. ਹੋਰੁ ਫਕੜੁ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੈ ॥ होरु फकड़ु हिंदू मुसलमाणै ॥ Hor fakaṛ hinḋoo musalmaaṇæ. Others, whether Hindu or Muslim, are just babbling. ਨਾਨਕ ਅਗੈ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ नानक अगै पुछ न होइ ॥२॥ Naanak agæ puchʰ na ho▫é. ||2|| O Nanak! Is not called to account hereafter. ||2||
