ਗਨਿ ਮਿਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਚਲਨੋ ਲੋਗ ॥
गनि मिनि देखहु मनै माहि सरपर चलनो लोग ॥
Gan min ḋékʰhu manæ maahi sarpar chalno log.
See, that even by calculating and scheming in their minds, people must surely depart in the end.

ਆਸ ਅਨਿਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਰੋਗ ॥੧॥
आस अनित गुरमुखि मिटै नानक नाम अरोग ॥१॥
Aas aniṫ gurmukʰ mitæ Naanak naam arog. ||1||
Hopes and desires for transitory things are erased for the Gurmukh; O Nanak! The Name alone brings true health. ||1||

ਗਗਾ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹੁ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਜਪਿ ਨੀਤ ॥
गगा गोबिद गुण रवहु सासि सासि जपि नीत ॥
Gagaa gobiḋ guṇ ravhu saas saas jap neeṫ.
GAGGA: Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe with each and every breath; meditate on Him forever.
|
ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਸਾ ਦੇਹ ਕਾ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਕਰਿਹੋ ਮੀਤ ॥
कहा बिसासा देह का बिलम न करिहो मीत ॥
Kahaa bisaasaa ḋéh kaa bilam na kariho meeṫ.
How can you rely on the body? Do not delay, my friend;
|
ਨਹ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਨਹ ਜੋਬਨੈ ਨਹ ਬਿਰਧੀ ਕਛੁ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
नह बारिक नह जोबनै नह बिरधी कछु बंधु ॥
Nah baarik nah jobnæ nah birḋʰee kachʰ banḋʰ.
there is nothing to stand in Death’s way - neither in childhood, nor in youth, nor in old age.
|
ਓਹ ਬੇਰਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਜਉ ਆਇ ਪਰੈ ਜਮ ਫੰਧੁ ॥
ओह बेरा नह बूझीऐ जउ आइ परै जम फंधु ॥
Oh béraa nah boojʰee▫æ ja▫o aa▫é paræ jam fanḋʰ.
That time is not known, when the noose of Death shall come and fall on you.
|
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਚਤੁਰ ਪੇਖਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਹ ਠਾਇ ॥
गिआनी धिआनी चतुर पेखि रहनु नही इह ठाइ ॥
Gi▫aanee ḋʰi▫aanee chaṫur pékʰ rahan nahee ih tʰaa▫é.
See, that even spiritual scholars, those who meditate, and those who are clever shall not stay in this place.
|
ਛਾਡਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਗਈ ਮੂੜ ਤਹਾ ਲਪਟਾਹਿ ॥
छाडि छाडि सगली गई मूड़ तहा लपटाहि ॥
Chʰaad chʰaad saglee ga▫ee mooṛ ṫahaa laptaahi.
Only the fool clings to that, which everyone else has abandoned and left behind.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਜਾਹੂ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ॥
गुर प्रसादि सिमरत रहै जाहू मसतकि भाग ॥
Gur parsaaḋ simraṫ rahæ jaahoo masṫak bʰaag.
By Guru’s Grace, one who has such a good destiny written on his forehead remembers the Lord in meditation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਏ ਸਫਲ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਅਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਗ ॥੧੯॥
नानक आए सफल ते जा कउ प्रिअहि सुहाग ॥१९॥
Naanak aa▫é safal ṫé jaa ka▫o pari▫ahi suhaag. ||19||
O Nanak! Blessed and fruitful is the coming of those who obtain the Beloved Lord as their Husband. ||19||
|

ਘੋਖੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸਭ ਆਨ ਨ ਕਥਤਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
घोखे सासत्र बेद सभ आन न कथतउ कोइ ॥
Gʰokʰé saasṫar béḋ sabʰ aan na kʰaṫʰaṫa▫o ko▫é.
I have searched all the Shastras and the Vedas, and they say nothing except this:

ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੁਣਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
आदि जुगादी हुणि होवत नानक एकै सोइ ॥१॥
Aaḋ jugaaḋee huṇ hovaṫ Naanak ékæ so▫é. ||1||
In the beginning, throughout the ages, now and forevermore, O Nanak! The One Lord alone exists. ||1||

ਘਘਾ ਘਾਲਹੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਏਹ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
घघा घालहु मनहि एह बिनु हरि दूसर नाहि ॥
Gʰagʰaa gʰaalhu manėh éh bin har ḋoosar naahi.
GHAGHA: Put this into your mind, that there is no one except the Lord.
|
ਨਹ ਹੋਆ ਨਹ ਹੋਵਨਾ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਓਹੀ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
नह होआ नह होवना जत कत ओही समाहि ॥
Nah ho▫aa nah hovnaa jaṫ kaṫ ohee samaahi.
There never was, and there never shall be. He is pervading everywhere.
|
ਘੂਲਹਿ ਤਉ ਮਨ ਜਉ ਆਵਹਿ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
घूलहि तउ मन जउ आवहि सरना ॥
Gʰoolėh ṫa▫o man ja▫o aavahi sarnaa.
You shall be absorbed into Him, O mind, if you come to His Sanctuary.
|
ਨਾਮ ਤਤੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨਾ ॥
नाम ततु कलि महि पुनहचरना ॥
Naam ṫaṫ kal mėh punharchanaa.
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be of any real use to you.
|
ਘਾਲਿ ਘਾਲਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥
घालि घालि अनिक पछुतावहि ॥
Gʰaal gʰaal anik pachʰuṫaavahi.
So many work and slave continually, but they come to regret and repent in the end.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਹਾ ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
बिनु हरि भगति कहा थिति पावहि ॥
Bin har bʰagaṫ kahaa ṫʰiṫ paavahi.
Without devotional worship of the Lord, how can they find stability?
|
ਘੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਿਹ ਪੀਆ ॥
घोलि महा रसु अमृतु तिह पीआ ॥
Gʰol mahaa ras amriṫ ṫih pee▫aa.
They alone taste the supreme essence, and drink the Ambrosial Nectar,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ॥੨੦॥
नानक हरि गुरि जा कउ दीआ ॥२०॥
Naanak har gur jaa ka▫o ḋee▫aa. ||20||
O Nanak! Unto whom the Lord, the Guru, gives it. ||20||
|

ਙਣਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਦਿਵਸ ਸਾਸ ਨਹ ਬਢਨ ਘਟਨ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਾਰ ॥
ङणि घाले सभ दिवस सास नह बढन घटन तिलु सार ॥
Ńaṇ gʰaalé sabʰ ḋivas saas nah badʰan gʰatan ṫil saar.
He has counted all the days and the breaths, and placed them in people’s destiny; they do not increase or decrease one little bit.

ਜੀਵਨ ਲੋਰਹਿ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਊ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
जीवन लोरहि भरम मोह नानक तेऊ गवार ॥१॥
Jeevan lorėh bʰaram moh Naanak ṫé▫oo gavaar. ||1||
Those who long to live in doubt and emotional attachment, O Nanak! Are total fools. ||1||

ਙੰਙਾ ਙ੍ਰਾਸੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਹ ਜੋ ਸਾਕਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨ ॥
ङंङा ङ्रासै कालु तिह जो साकत प्रभि कीन ॥
Ńańaa ńaraasæ kaal ṫih jo saakaṫ parabʰ keen.
NGANGA: Death seizes those whom God has made into faithless cynics.
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ ॥
अनिक जोनि जनमहि मरहि आतम रामु न चीन ॥
Anik jon janmėh marėh aaṫam raam na cheen.
They are born and they die, enduring countless incarnations; they do not realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul.
|
ਙਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਆਏ ॥
ङिआन धिआन ताहू कउ आए ॥
Ńi▫aan ḋʰi▫aan ṫaahoo ka▫o aa▫é.
They alone find spiritual wisdom and meditation,
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਹ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਏ ॥
करि किरपा जिह आपि दिवाए ॥
Kar kirpaa jih aap ḋivaa▫é.
whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy;
|
ਙਣਤੀ ਙਣੀ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਛੂਟੈ ॥
ङणती ङणी नही कोऊ छूटै ॥
Ńaṇṫee ńaṇee nahee ko▫oo chʰootæ.
no one is emancipated by counting and calculating.
|
ਕਾਚੀ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਫੂਟੈ ॥
काची गागरि सरपर फूटै ॥
Kaachee gaagar sarpar footæ.
The vessel of clay shall surely break.
|
ਸੋ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਿਹ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਪਿਆ ॥
सो जीवत जिह जीवत जपिआ ॥
So jeevaṫ jih jeevaṫ japi▫aa.
They alone live, who, while alive, meditate on the Lord.
|
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਪਿਆ ॥੨੧॥
प्रगट भए नानक नह छपिआ ॥२१॥
Pargat bʰa▫é Naanak nah chʰapi▫aa. ||21||
They are respected, O Nanak! And do not remain hidden. ||21||

ਚਿਤਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਊਧ ਕਵਲ ਬਿਗਸਾਂਤ ॥
चिति चितवउ चरणारबिंद ऊध कवल बिगसांत ॥
Chiṫ chiṫva▫o charṇaarbinḋ ooḋʰ kaval bigsaaⁿṫ.
Focus your consciousness on His Lotus Feet, and the inverted lotus of your heart shall blossom forth.

ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਆਪਹਿ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਮਤਾਂਤ ॥੧॥
प्रगट भए आपहि गुोबिंद नानक संत मतांत ॥१॥
Pargat bʰa▫é aapėh gobinḋ Naanak sanṫ maṫaaⁿṫ. ||1||
The Lord of the Universe Himself becomes manifest, O Nanak! Through the Teachings of the Saints. ||1||

ਚਚਾ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
चचा चरन कमल गुर लागा ॥
Chachaa charan kamal gur laagaa.
CHACHA: When I became attached to the Lord’s Lotus Feet,
|
ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਉਆ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥
धनि धनि उआ दिन संजोग सभागा ॥
Ḋʰan ḋʰan u▫aa ḋin sanjog sabʰaagaa.
blessed, blessed is that day.
|
ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
चारि कुंट दह दिसि भ्रमि आइओ ॥
Chaar kunt ḋah ḋis bʰaram aa▫i▫o.
After wandering around in the four quarters and the ten directions,
|
ਭਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤਬ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
भई क्रिपा तब दरसनु पाइओ ॥
Bʰa▫ee kirpaa ṫab ḋarsan paa▫i▫o.
God showed His Mercy to me, and then I obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
|
ਚਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਸਭ ਦੂਆ ॥
चार बिचार बिनसिओ सभ दूआ ॥
Chaar bichaar binsi▫o sabʰ ḋoo▫aa.
By pure lifestyle and meditation, all duality is removed.
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੂਆ ॥
साधसंगि मनु निरमल हूआ ॥
Saaḋʰsang man nirmal hoo▫aa.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mind becomes immaculate.
|
ਚਿੰਤ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥
चिंत बिसारी एक द्रिसटेता ॥
Chinṫ bisaaree ék ḋaristéṫaa.
Anxieties are forgotten, and the One Lord alone is seen,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਜਿਹ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ॥੨੨॥
नानक गिआन अंजनु जिह नेत्रा ॥२२॥
Naanak gi▫aan anjan jih néṫaraa. ||22||
O Nanak! By those whose eyes are anointed with the ointment of spiritual wisdom. ||22||

ਛਾਤੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਮਨੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਛੰਤ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥
छाती सीतल मनु सुखी छंत गोबिद गुन गाइ ॥
Chʰaaṫee seeṫal man sukʰee chʰanṫ gobiḋ gun gaa▫é.
The heart is cooled and soothed, and the mind is at peace, chanting and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਐਸੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇ ॥੧॥
ऐसी किरपा करहु प्रभ नानक दास दसाइ ॥१॥
Æsee kirpaa karahu parabʰ Naanak ḋaas ḋasaa▫é. ||1||
Show such Mercy, O God, that Nanak may become the slave of Your slaves. ||1||

ਛਛਾ ਛੋਹਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
छछा छोहरे दास तुमारे ॥
Chʰachʰaa chʰohré ḋaas ṫumaaré.
CHHACHHA: I am Your child-slave.
|
ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰੇ ॥
दास दासन के पानीहारे ॥
Ḋaas ḋaasan ké paaneehaaré.
I am the water-carrier of the slave of Your slaves.
|
ਛਛਾ ਛਾਰੁ ਹੋਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾ ॥
छछा छारु होत तेरे संता ॥
Chʰachʰaa chʰaar hoṫ ṫéré sanṫaa.
Chhachha: I long to become the dust under the feet of Your Saints.
