ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
गुर परसादी करम कमाउ ॥
Gur parsaadee karam kamaa▫o.
By Guru’s Grace, perform good deeds.

ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੫॥
नामे राता हरि गुण गाउ ॥५॥
Naamé raaṫaa har guṇ gaa▫o. ||5||
Imbued with the Naam, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||5||
|
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
गुर सेवा ते आपु पछाता ॥
Gur sévaa ṫé aap pachʰaaṫaa.
Serving the Guru, I have come to understand myself.
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
अमृत नामु वसिआ सुखदाता ॥
Amriṫ naam vasi▫aa sukʰ▫ḋaaṫa.
The Ambrosial Naam, the Giver of Peace, abides within my mind.
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੬॥
अनदिनु बाणी नामे राता ॥६॥
An▫ḋin baṇee naamé raaṫaa. ||6||
Night and day, I am imbued with the Word of the Guru’s Bani, and the Naam. ||6||
|
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਾਏ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
मेरा प्रभु लाए ता को लागै ॥
Méraa parabʰ laa▫é ṫaa ko laagæ.
When my God attaches someone to Him, only then is that person attached.
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
हउमै मारे सबदे जागै ॥
Ha▫umæ maaré sabḋé jaagæ.
Conquering ego, he remains awake to the Word of the Shabad.
|
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥੭॥
ऐथै ओथै सदा सुखु आगै ॥७॥
Æṫʰæ oṫʰæ saḋaa sukʰ aagæ. ||7||
Here and hereafter, he enjoys lasting peace. ||7||
|
ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
मनु चंचलु बिधि नाही जाणै ॥
Man chanchal biḋʰ naahee jaaṇæ.
The fickle mind does not know the way.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਲਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
मनमुखि मैला सबदु न पछाणै ॥
Manmukʰ mælaa sabaḋ na pachʰaaṇæ.
The filthy self-willed Manmukh does not understand the Shabad.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੮॥
गुरमुखि निरमलु नामु वखाणै ॥८॥
Gurmukʰ nirmal naam vakʰaaṇæ. ||8||
The Gurmukh chants the Immaculate Naam. ||8||
|
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਗੈ ਕਰੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
हरि जीउ आगै करी अरदासि ॥
Har jee▫o aagæ karee arḋaas.
I offer my prayer to the Lord,
|
ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
साधू जन संगति होइ निवासु ॥
Saaḋʰoo jan sangaṫ ho▫é nivaas.
that I might dwell in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੯॥
किलविख दुख काटे हरि नामु प्रगासु ॥९॥
Kilvikʰ ḋukʰ kaaté har naam pargaas. ||9||
There, sins and sufferings are erased, and one is illuminated with the Lord’s Name. ||9||
|
ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਆਚਾਰੁ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥
करि बीचारु आचारु पराता ॥
Kar beechaar aachaar paraaṫaa.
In reflective meditation, I have come to love good conduct.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
सतिगुर बचनी एको जाता ॥
Saṫgur bachnee éko jaaṫaa.
Through the Word of the True Guru, I recognize the One Lord.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੧੦॥੭॥
नानक राम नामि मनु राता ॥१०॥७॥
Naanak raam naam man raaṫaa. ||10||7||
O Nanak! My mind is imbued with the Lord’s Name. ||10||7||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
आसा महला १ ॥
Aasaa mėhlaa 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ॥
मनु मैगलु साकतु देवाना ॥
Man mægal saakaṫ ḋévaanaa.
The mind of the faithless cynic is like a crazy elephant.
|
ਬਨ ਖੰਡਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹੈਰਾਨਾ ॥
बन खंडि माइआ मोहि हैराना ॥
Ban kʰand maa▫i▫aa mohi hæraanaa.
It wanders around the forest, distracted by attachment to Maya.
|
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਜਾਹਿ ਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਚਾਪੇ ॥
इत उत जाहि काल के चापे ॥
Iṫ uṫ jaahi kaal ké chaapé.
It goes here and there, hounded by death.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ਘਰੁ ਆਪੇ ॥੧॥
गुरमुखि खोजि लहै घरु आपे ॥१॥
Gurmukʰ kʰoj lahæ gʰar aapé. ||1||
The Gurmukh seeks, and finds his own home. ||1||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੈ ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਠਉਰਾ ॥
बिनु गुर सबदै मनु नही ठउरा ॥
Bin gur sabḋæ man nahee tʰa▫uraa.
Without the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the mind finds no place of rest.
|
ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਉਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सिमरहु राम नामु अति निरमलु अवर तिआगहु हउमै कउरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Simrahu raam naam aṫ nirmal avar ṫi▫aagahu ha▫umæ ka▫uraa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Remember in meditation the Lord’s Name, the most pure and sublime; renounce your bitter egotism. ||1||Pause||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹਸੀ ॥
इहु मनु मुगधु कहहु किउ रहसी ॥
Ih man mugaḋʰ kahhu ki▫o rahsee.
Tell me, how can this stupid mind be rescued?
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਮਝੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹਸੀ ॥
बिनु समझे जम का दुखु सहसी ॥
Bin samjʰé jam kaa ḋukʰ sahsee.
Without understanding, it shall suffer the pains of death.
|
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੈ ॥
आपे बखसे सतिगुरु मेलै ॥
Aapé bakʰsé saṫgur mélæ.
The Lord Himself forgives us, and unites us with the True Guru.
|
ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਪੇਲੈ ॥੨॥
कालु कंटकु मारे सचु पेलै ॥२॥
Kaal kantak maaré sach pélæ. ||2||
The True Lord conquers and overcomes the tortures of death. ||2||
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥
इहु मनु करमा इहु मनु धरमा ॥
Ih man karmaa ih man ḋʰarmaa.
This mind commits its deeds of karma, and this mind follows the Dharma.
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਤੇ ਜਨਮਾ ॥
इहु मनु पंच ततु ते जनमा ॥
Ih man panch ṫaṫ ṫé janmaa.
This mind is born of the five elements.
|
ਸਾਕਤੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੂੜਾ ॥
साकतु लोभी इहु मनु मूड़ा ॥
Saakaṫ lobʰee ih man mooṛaa.
This foolish mind is perverted and greedy.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਮਨੁ ਰੂੜਾ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि नामु जपै मनु रूड़ा ॥३॥
Gurmukʰ naam japæ man rooṛaa. ||3||
Chanting the Naam, the mind of the Gurmukh becomes beautiful. ||3||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਅਸਥਾਨੇ ਸੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि मनु असथाने सोई ॥
Gurmukʰ man asṫʰaané so▫ee.
The mind of the Gurmukh finds the Lord’s home.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि त्रिभवणि सोझी होई ॥
Gurmukʰ ṫaribʰavaṇ sojʰee ho▫ee.
The Gurmukh comes to know the three worlds.
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪੈ ॥
इहु मनु जोगी भोगी तपु तापै ॥
Ih man jogee bʰogee ṫap ṫaapæ.
This mind is a Yogi, an enjoyer, a practitioner of austerities.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚੀਨੑੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੈ ॥੪॥
गुरमुखि चीन्है हरि प्रभु आपै ॥४॥
Gurmukʰ cheenĥæ har parabʰ aapæ. ||4||
The Gurmukh understands the Lord God Himself. ||4||
|
ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
मनु बैरागी हउमै तिआगी ॥
Man bæraagee ha▫umæ ṫi▫aagee.
This mind is a detached renunciate, forsaking egotism.
|
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
घटि घटि मनसा दुबिधा लागी ॥
Gʰat gʰat mansaa ḋubiḋʰaa laagee.
Desire and duality afflict each and every heart.
|
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਖੈ ॥
राम रसाइणु गुरमुखि चाखै ॥
Raam rasaa▫iṇ gurmukʰ chaakʰæ.
The Gurmukh drinks in the Lord’s sublime essence;
|
ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ॥੫॥
दरि घरि महली हरि पति राखै ॥५॥
Ḋar gʰar mahlee har paṫ raakʰæ. ||5||
at His Door, in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, He preserves his honor. ||5||
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੂਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਿ ॥
इहु मनु राजा सूर संग्रामि ॥
Ih man raajaa soor sangraam.
This mind is the king, the hero of cosmic battles.
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ॥
इहु मनु निरभउ गुरमुखि नामि ॥
Ih man nirbʰa▫o gurmukʰ naam.
The mind of the Gurmukh becomes fearless through the Naam.
|
ਮਾਰੇ ਪੰਚ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਏ ॥
मारे पंच अपुनै वसि कीए ॥
Maaré panch apunæ vas kee▫é.
Overpowering and subduing the five passions,
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿ ਇਕਤੁ ਥਾਇ ਕੀਏ ॥੬॥
हउमै ग्रासि इकतु थाइ कीए ॥६॥
Ha▫umæ garaas ikaṫ ṫʰaa▫é kee▫é. ||6||
holding ego in its grip, it confines them to one place. ||6||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਆਦ ਅਨ ਤਿਆਗੇ ॥
गुरमुखि राग सुआद अन तिआगे ॥
Gurmukʰ raag su▫aaḋ an ṫi▫aagé.
The Gurmukh renounces other songs and tastes.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
गुरमुखि इहु मनु भगती जागे ॥
Gurmukʰ ih man bʰagṫee jaagé.
The mind of the Gurmukh is awakened to devotion.
|
ਅਨਹਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
अनहद सुणि मानिआ सबदु वीचारी ॥
Anhaḋ suṇ maani▫aa sabaḋ veechaaree.
Hearing the unstruck music of the sound current, this mind contemplates the Shabad, and accepts it.
|
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨੑਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
आतमु चीन्हि भए निरंकारी ॥७॥
Aaṫam cheenėh bʰa▫é nirankaaree. ||7||
Understanding itself, this soul becomes attuned to the Formless Lord. ||7||
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
इहु मनु निरमलु दरि घरि सोई ॥
Ih man nirmal ḋar gʰar so▫ee.
This mind becomes immaculately pure, in the Court and the Home of the Lord.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ਧੁਨਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि भगति भाउ धुनि होई ॥
Gurmukʰ bʰagaṫ bʰaa▫o ḋʰun ho▫ee.
The Gurmukh shows his love through loving devotional worship.
|
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
अहिनिसि हरि जसु गुर परसादि ॥
Ahinis har jas gur parsaaḋ.
Night and day, by Guru’s Grace, sing the Lord’s Praises.
|
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ॥੮॥
घटि घटि सो प्रभु आदि जुगादि ॥८॥
Gʰat gʰat so parabʰ aaḋ jugaaḋ. ||8||
God dwells in each and every heart, since the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages. ||8||
|
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
राम रसाइणि इहु मनु माता ॥
Raam rasaa▫iṇ ih man maaṫaa.
This mind is intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord;
|
ਸਰਬ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
सरब रसाइणु गुरमुखि जाता ॥
Sarab rasaa▫iṇ gurmukʰ jaaṫaa.
The Gurmukh realizes the essence of totality.
|
ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥
भगति हेतु गुर चरण निवासा ॥
Bʰagaṫ héṫ gur charaṇ nivaasaa.
For the sake of devotional worship, he dwells at the Guru’s Feet.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੯॥੮॥
नानक हरि जन के दासनि दासा ॥९॥८॥
Naanak har jan ké ḋaasan ḋaasaa. ||9||8||
Nanak is the humble servant of the slave of the Lord’s slaves. ||9||8||
