ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਸਾਧੀ ॥੧॥
करणहार की सेव न साधी ॥१॥
Karanhaar kee sév na saaḋʰee. ||1||
He has not performed any service to the Creator Lord. ||1||

ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
पतित पावन प्रभ नाम तुमारे ॥
Paṫiṫ paavan parabʰ naam ṫumaaré.
O God, Your Name is the Purifier of sinners.

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
राखि लेहु मोहि निरगुनीआरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Raakʰ lého mohi nirgunee▫aaré. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
I am worthless - please save me! ||1||Pause||
|
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
तूं दाता प्रभ अंतरजामी ॥
Ṫooⁿ ḋaaṫaa parabʰ anṫarjaamee.
O God, You are the Great Giver, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਕਾਚੀ ਦੇਹ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
काची देह मानुख अभिमानी ॥२॥
Kaachee ḋéh maanukʰ abʰimaanee. ||2||
The body of the egotistical human is perishable. ||2||
|
ਸੁਆਦ ਬਾਦ ਈਰਖ ਮਦ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
सुआद बाद ईरख मद माइआ ॥
Su▫aaḋ baaḋ eerakʰ maḋ maa▫i▫aa.
Tastes and pleasures, conflicts and jealousy, and intoxication with Maya -
|
ਇਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
इन संगि लागि रतन जनमु गवाइआ ॥३॥
In sang laag raṫan janam gavaa▫i▫aa. ||3||
attached to these, the jewel of human life is wasted. ||3||
|
ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
दुख भंजन जगजीवन हरि राइआ ॥
Ḋukʰ bʰanjan jagjeevan har raa▫i▫aa.
The Sovereign Lord King is the Destroyer of pain, the Life of the world.

ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੯॥
सगल तिआगि नानकु सरणाइआ ॥४॥१३॥१९॥
Sagal ṫi▫aag Naanak sarṇaa▫i▫aa. ||4||13||19||
Forsaking everything, Nanak has entered His Sanctuary. ||4||13||19||

ਪੇਖਤ ਚਾਖਤ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਅੰਧਾ ਸੁਨੀਅਤ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
पेखत चाखत कहीअत अंधा सुनीअत सुनीऐ नाही ॥
Pékʰaṫ chaakʰaṫ kahee▫aṫ anḋʰaa sunee▫aṫ sunee▫æ naahee.
He sees with his eyes, but he is called blind; he hears, but he does not hear.

ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਰੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
निकटि वसतु कउ जाणै दूरे पापी पाप कमाही ॥१॥
Nikat vasaṫ ka▫o jaaṇæ ḋooré paapee paap kamaahee. ||1||
And the One who dwells near at hand, he thinks that He is far away; the sinner is committing sins. ||1||
|
ਸੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
सो किछु करि जितु छुटहि परानी ॥
So kichʰ kar jiṫ chʰutėh paraanee.
Do only those deeds which will save you, O mortal being.
|
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि हरि नामु जपि अमृत बानी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har har naam jap amriṫ baanee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and the Ambrosial Word of His Bani. ||1||Pause||
|
ਘੋਰ ਮਹਲ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
घोर महल सदा रंगि राता ॥
Gʰor mahal saḋaa rang raaṫaa.
You are forever imbued with the love of horses and mansions.
|
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
संगि तुम्हारै कछू न जाता ॥२॥
Sang ṫumĥaaræ kachʰoo na jaaṫaa. ||2||
Nothing shall go along with you. ||2||
|
ਰਖਹਿ ਪੋਚਾਰਿ ਮਾਟੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਂਡਾ ॥
रखहि पोचारि माटी का भांडा ॥
Rakʰėh pochaar maatee kaa bʰaaⁿdaa.
You may clean and decorate the vessel of clay,
|
ਅਤਿ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਮ ਡਾਂਡਾ ॥੩॥
अति कुचील मिलै जम डांडा ॥३॥
Aṫ kucheel milæ jam daaⁿdaa. ||3||
but it is so very filthy; it shall receive its punishment from the Messenger of Death. ||3||
|
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥
काम क्रोधि लोभि मोहि बाधा ॥
Kaam kroḋʰ lobʰ mohi baaḋʰaa.
You are bound by sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.

ਮਹਾ ਗਰਤ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਘਰਤ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੪॥
महा गरत महि निघरत जाता ॥४॥
Mahaa garaṫ mėh nigʰraṫ jaaṫaa. ||4||
You are sinking down into the great pit. ||4||
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ॥
नानक की अरदासि सुणीजै ॥
Naanak kee arḋaas suṇeejæ.
Hear this prayer of Nanak, O Lord;

ਡੂਬਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੫॥੧੪॥੨੦॥
डूबत पाहन प्रभ मेरे लीजै ॥५॥१४॥२०॥
Doobaṫ paahan parabʰ méré leejæ. ||5||14||20||
I am a stone, sinking down - please, rescue me! ||5||14||20||

ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
जीवत मरै बुझै प्रभु सोइ ॥
Jeevaṫ maræ bujʰæ parabʰ so▫é.
One who remains dead while still alive understands God.

ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
तिसु जन करमि परापति होइ ॥१॥
Ṫis jan karam paraapaṫ ho▫é. ||1||
He meets that humble being according to the karma of his past actions. ||1||
|
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਇਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
सुणि साजन इउ दुतरु तरीऐ ॥
Suṇ saajan i▫o ḋuṫar ṫaree▫æ.
Listen, O friend - this is how to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मिलि साधू हरि नामु उचरीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Mil saaḋʰoo har naam uchree▫æ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Meet with the Holy, and chant the Lord’s Name||1||Pause||
|
ਏਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
एक बिना दूजा नही जानै ॥
Ék binaa ḋoojaa nahee jaanæ.
There is no other to know, except for the One Lord.
|
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
घट घट अंतरि पारब्रहमु पछानै ॥२॥
Gʰat gʰat anṫar paarbarahm pachʰaanæ. ||2||
So, realize that the Supreme Lord God is within each and every heart. ||2||
|
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
जो किछु करै सोई भल मानै ॥
Jo kichʰ karæ so▫ee bʰal maanæ.
Whatever He does, accept that as good.
|
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
आदि अंत की कीमति जानै ॥३॥
Aaḋ anṫ kee keemaṫ jaanæ. ||3||
Know the value of the beginning and the end. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
कहु नानक तिसु जन बलिहारी ॥
Kaho Naanak ṫis jan balihaaree.
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to that humble being,

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਹਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੧॥
जा कै हिरदै वसहि मुरारी ॥४॥१५॥२१॥
Jaa kæ hirḋæ vasėh muraaree. ||4||15||21||
within whose heart the Lord dwells. ||4||15||21||

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
गुरु परमेसरु करणैहारु ॥
Gur parmésar karṇæhaar.
The Guru is the Transcendent Lord, the Creator Lord.
|
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
सगल स्रिसटि कउ दे आधारु ॥१॥
Sagal sarisat ka▫o ḋé aaḋʰaar. ||1||
He gives His Support to the entire Universe. ||1||
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
गुर के चरण कमल मन धिआइ ॥
Gur ké charaṇ kamal man ḋʰi▫aa▫é.
Meditate within your mind on the Lotus Feet of the Guru.
|
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
दूखु दरदु इसु तन ते जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ḋookʰ ḋaraḋ is ṫan ṫé jaa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Pain and suffering shall leave this body. ||1||Pause||
|
ਭਵਜਲਿ ਡੂਬਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਾਢੈ ॥
भवजलि डूबत सतिगुरु काढै ॥
Bʰavjal doobaṫ saṫgur kaadʰæ.
The True Guru saves the drowning being from the terrifying world-ocean.

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਟੂਟਾ ਗਾਢੈ ॥੨॥
जनम जनम का टूटा गाढै ॥२॥
Janam janam kaa tootaa gaadʰæ. ||2||
He reunites those who were separated for countless incarnations. ||2||
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
गुर की सेवा करहु दिनु राति ॥
Gur kee sévaa karahu ḋin raaṫ.
Serve the Guru, day and night.
|
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਮਨਿ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥
सूख सहज मनि आवै सांति ॥३॥
Sookʰ sahj man aavæ saaⁿṫ. ||3||
Your mind shall come to have peace, pleasure and poise. ||3||
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
सतिगुर की रेणु वडभागी पावै ॥
Saṫgur kee réṇ vadbʰaagee paavæ.
By great good fortune, one obtains the dust of the feet of the True Guru.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੨॥
नानक गुर कउ सद बलि जावै ॥४॥१६॥२२॥
Naanak gur ka▫o saḋ bal jaavæ. ||4||16||22||
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||4||16||22||

Gur apuné oopar bal jaa▫ee▫æ.
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
आठ पहर हरि हरि जसु गाईऐ ॥१॥
Aatʰ pahar har har jas gaa▫ee▫æ. ||1||
Twenty-four hours a day, I sing the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
|
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
सिमरउ सो प्रभु अपना सुआमी ॥
Simra▫o so parabʰ apnaa su▫aamee.
Meditate in remembrance of God, your Lord and Master.

ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सगल घटा का अंतरजामी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sagal gʰataa kaa anṫarjaamee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of all hearts. ||1||Pause||
|
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
चरण कमल सिउ लागी प्रीति ॥
Charaṇ kamal si▫o laagee pareeṫ.
So, love the Lord’s Lotus Feet,
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
साची पूरन निरमल रीति ॥२॥
Saachee pooran nirmal reeṫ. ||2||
and live a lifestyle which is true, perfect and spotless. ||2||
|
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
संत प्रसादि वसै मन माही ॥
Sanṫ parsaaḋ vasæ man maahee.
By the Grace of the Saints, the Lord comes to dwell within the mind,
|
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
जनम जनम के किलविख जाही ॥३॥
Janam janam ké kilvikʰ jaahee. ||3||
and the sins of countless incarnations are eradicated. ||3||
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
करि किरपा प्रभ दीन दइआला ॥
Kar kirpaa parabʰ ḋeen ḋa▫i▫aalaa.
Please be Merciful, O God, O Merciful to the meek.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਸੰਤ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੩॥
नानकु मागै संत रवाला ॥४॥१७॥२३॥
Naanak maagæ sanṫ ravaalaa. ||4||17||23||
Nanak begs for the dust of the Saints. ||4||17||23||
