you shall have to leave it all behind.

These things seem like only a dream,

to one who takes the Lord's Name. ||1||

har taj an lagay haaN.
Forsaking the Lord, and clinging to another,

janmeh mar bhagay haaN.
they run toward death and reincarnation.

hir hir jin lhy hW ] (411-2)
har har jan lahay haaN.
But those humble beings, who attach themselves to the Lord, Har, Har,

jeevat say rahay haaN.
continue to live.

jisahi kirpaal ho-ay haaN.
One who is blessed with the Lord's Mercy,

lobh garsi-o das hoo dis Dhaavat aasaa laagi-o Dhan kee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Engrossed in greed, running around in the ten directions, you hold to your hopes of wealth. ||1||Pause||

sukh kai hayt bahut dukh paavat sayv karat jan jan kee.
For the sake of pleasure, you suffer such great pain, and you have to serve each and every person.

du-aareh du-aar su-aan ji-o dolat nah suDh raam bhajan kee. ||1||
You wander from door to door like a dog, unconscious of the Lord's meditation. ||1||

maanas janam akaarath khovat laaj na lok hasan kee.
You lose this human life in vain, and You are not even ashamed when others laugh at you.

naanak har jas ki-o nahee gaavat kumat binaasai tan kee. ||2||1||233||
O Nanak, why not sing the Lord's Praises, so that you may be rid of the body's evil disposition? ||2||1||233||

without speaking or saying anything, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

jal aakaasee sunn samaavai.
Like water vapor in the sky, he remains absorbed in the Lord.

ras sat jhol mahaa ras paavai. ||1||
He churns the true pleasures to obtain the supreme nectar. ||1||

AYsw igAwnu sunhu AB mory ] (411-11)
aisaa gi-aan sunhu abh moray.
Listen to such spiritual wisdom, O my mind.

Birpuir Dwir rihAw sB Taury ]1] rhwau ] (411-11)
bharipur Dhaar rahi-aa sabh tha-uray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Lord is totally pervading and permeating all places. ||1||Pause||

sach barat naym na kaal santaavai.
One who makes Truthfulness his fast and religious vows, does not suffer the pain of death.

siqgur sbid kroDu jlwvY ] (411-12)
satgur sabad karoDh jalaavai.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he burns away his anger.

ggin invwis smwiD lgwvY ] (411-12)
gagan nivaas samaaDh lagaavai.
He dwells in the Tenth Gate, immersed in the Samaadhi of deep meditation.

pwrsu pris prm pdu pwvY ]2] (411-13)
paaras paras param pad paavai. ||2||
Touching the philosopher's stone, he obtains the supreme status. ||2||

sach man kaaran tat bilovai.
For the benefit of the mind, churn the true essence of reality;

suBr srvir mYlu n DovY ] (411-13)
subhar sarvar mail na Dhovai.
bathing in the over-flowing tank of nectar, filth is washed away.

jai si-o raataa taiso hovai.
We become like the One with whom we are imbued.

Awpy krqw kry su hovY ]3] (411-14)
aapay kartaa karay so hovai. ||3||
Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass. ||3||

gur ihv sIqlu Agin buJwvY ] (411-14)
gur hiv seetal agan bujhaavai.
The Guru is cool and soothing like ice; He puts out the fire of the mind.

syvw suriq ibBUq cVwvY ] (411-14)
sayvaa surat bibhoot charhaavai.
Smear your body with the ashes of dedicated service,

drsnu Awip shj Gir AwvY ] (411-15)
darsan aap sahj ghar aavai.
and live in the home of peace - make this your religious order.

nirmal banee naad vajaavai. ||4||
Let the Immaculate Bani of the Word be your playing of the flute. ||4||

antar gi-aan mahaa ras saaraa.
Spiritual wisdom within is the supreme, sublime nectar.

qIrQ mjnu gur vIcwrw ] (411-16)
tirath majan gur veechaaraa.
Contemplation of the Guru is one's bathing at holy places of pilgrimage.

antar poojaa thaan muraaraa.
Worship and adoration within is the Lord's dwelling.

joqI joiq imlwvxhwrw ]5] (411-16)
jotee jot milaavanhaaraa. ||5||
He is the One who blends one's light with the Divine Light. ||5||

ris risAw miq eykY Bwie ] (411-17)
ras rasi-aa mat aykai bhaa-ay.
He delights in the delightful wisdom of loving the One Lord.

takhat nivaasee panch samaa-ay.
He is one of the self-elect - he merges with the Lord, who occupies the throne.

kwr kmweI Ksm rjwie ] (411-17)
kaar kamaa-ee khasam rajaa-ay.
He performs his works in obedience to the Will of his Lord and Master.

Aivgq nwQu n liKAw jwie ]6] (411-18)
avigat naath na lakhi-aa jaa-ay. ||6||
The Unknowable Lord cannot be understood. ||6||

jl mih aupjY jl qy dUir ] (411-18)
jal meh upjai jal tay door.
The lotus originates in the water, and yet it remains distinct from the water.

jl mih joiq rihAw BrpUir ] (411-18)
jal meh jot rahi-aa bharpoor.
Just so, the Divine Light pervades and permeates the water of the world.

kis nayrhai kis aakhaa door.
Who is near, and who is far away?

niDh gun gaavaa daykh hadoor. ||7||
I sing the Glories of the Lord, the treasure of virtue; I behold Him ever-present. ||7||

AMqir bwhir Avru n koie ] (411-19)
antar baahar avar na ko-ay.
Inwardly and outwardly, there is none other than Him.
