jee-a jant sabh saaree keetay paasaa dhaalan aap lagaa. ||26||
He made all beings and creatures his chessmen, and He Himself threw the dice. ||26||

BBY Bwlih sy Plu pwvih gur prswdI ijn@ kau Bau pieAw ] (434-1)
bhabhai bhaaleh say fal paavahi gur parsaadee jinH ka-o bha-o pa-i-aa.
Bhabha: Those who search, find the fruits of their rewards; by Guru's Grace, they live in the Fear of God.

mnmuK iPrih n cyqih mUVy lK caurwsIh Pyru pieAw ]27] (434-2)
manmukh fireh na cheeteh moorhay lakh cha-oraaseeh fayr pa-i-aa. ||27||
The self-willed manmukhs wander around, and they do not remember the Lord; the fools are consigned to the cycle of 8.4 million incarnations. ||27||

mMmY mohu mrxu mDusUdnu mrxu BieAw qb cyqivAw ] (434-2)
mammai moh maran maDhusoodan maran bha-i-aa tab chaytvi-aa.
Mamma: In emotional attachment, he dies; he only thinks of the Lord, the Love of Nectar, when he dies.

kwieAw BIqir Avro piVAw mMmw AKru vIsirAw ]28] (434-3)
kaa-i-aa bheetar avro parhi-aa mammaa akhar veesri-aa. ||28||
As long as the body is alive, he reads other things, and forgets the letter 'm', which stands for marnaa - death. ||28||

XXY jnmu n hovI kd hI jy kir scu pCwxY ] (434-4)
ya-yai janam na hovee kad hee jay kar sach pachhaanai.
Yaya: He is never reincarnated again, if he recognizes the True Lord.

gurmuiK AwKY gurmuiK bUJY gurmuiK eyko jwxY ]29] (434-4)
gurmukh aakhai gurmukh boojhai gurmukh ayko jaanai. ||29||
The Gurmukh speaks, the Gurmukh understands, and the Gurmukh knows only the One Lord. ||29||

rwrY riv rihAw sB AMqir jyqy kIey jMqw ] (434-5)
raarai rav rahi-aa sabh antar jaytay kee-ay jantaa.
Rarra: The Lord is contained among all; He created all beings.

jMq aupwie DMDY sB lwey krmu hoAw iqn nwmu lieAw ]30] (434-5)
jant upaa-ay DhanDhai sabh laa-ay karam ho-aa tin naam la-i-aa. ||30||
Having created His beings, He has put them all to work; they alone remember the Naam, upon whom He bestows His Grace. ||30||

lalai laa-ay DhanDhai jin chhodee meethaa maa-i-aa moh kee-aa.
Lalla: He has assigned people to their tasks, and made the love of Maya seem sweet to them.

Kwxw pIxw sm kir shxw BwxY qw kY hukmu pieAw ]31] (434-6)
khaanaa peenaa sam kar sahnaa bhaanai taa kai hukam pa-i-aa. ||31||
We eat and drink; we should endure equally whatever occurs, by His Will, by His Command. ||31||

vvY vwsudyau prmysru vyKx kau ijin vysu kIAw ] (434-7)
vavai vaasuday-o parmaysar vaykhan ka-o jin vays kee-aa.
Wawa: The all-pervading Transcendent Lord beholds the world; He created the form it wears.

vyKY cwKY sBu ikCu jwxY AMqir bwhir riv rihAw ]32] (434-7)
vaykhai chaakhai sabh kichh jaanai antar baahar rav rahi-aa. ||32||
He beholds, tastes, and knows everything; He is pervading and permeating inwardly and outwardly. ||32||

VwVY rwiV krih ikAw pRwxI iqsih iDAwvhu ij Amru hoAw ] iqsih iDAwvhu sic smwvhu Esu ivthu kurbwxu kIAw ]33] (434-8)
rhaarhai raarh karahi ki-aa paraanee tiseh Dhi-aavahu je amar ho-aa. tiseh Dhi-aavahu sach samaavahu os vitahu kurbaan kee-aa. ||33||
Rarra: Why do you quarrel, O mortal? Meditate on the Imperishable Lord, and be absorbed into the True One. Become a sacrifice to Him. ||33||

hwhY horu n koeI dwqw jIA aupwie ijin irjku dIAw ] (434-9)
haahai hor na ko-ee daataa jee-a upaa-ay jin rijak dee-aa.
Haha: There is no other Giver than Him; having created the creatures, He gives them nourishment.

hir nwmu iDAwvhu hir nwim smwvhu Anidnu lwhw hir nwmu lIAw ]34] (434-10)
har naam Dhi-aavahu har naam samaavahu an-din laahaa har naam lee-aa. ||34||
Meditate on the Lord's Name, be absorbed into the Lord's Name, and night and day, reap the Profit of the Lord's Name. ||34||

aa-irhai aap karay jin chhodee jo kichh karnaa so kar rahi-aa.
Airaa: He Himself created the world; whatever He has to do, He continues to do.

kry krwey sB ikCu jwxY nwnk swier iev kihAw ]35]1] (434-11)
karay karaa-ay sabh kichh jaanai naanak saa-ir iv kahi-aa. ||35||1||
He acts, and causes others to act, and He knows everything; so says Nanak, the poet. ||35||1||

reeree lalee paap kamaanay parh avgan gun veesri-aa. ||1||
Reeree, Laalee: People commit sins, and falling into vice, forget virtue. ||1||

man aisaa laykhaa tooN kee parhi-aa.
O mortal, why have you studied such an account,

lyKw dyxw qyrY isir rihAw ]1] rhwau ] (434-15)
laykhaa daynaa tayrai sir rahi-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
which shall call you to answer for payment? ||1||Pause||

isDM|wieAY ismrih nwhI nµnY nw quDu nwmu lieAw ] (434-16)
siDhaNnyaa-ee-ai simrahi naahee nannai naa tuDh naam la-i-aa.
Sidhan, Ngaayiyai: You do not remember the Lord. Nanna: You do not take the Lord's Name.

CCY CIjih Aihinis mUVy ikau CUtih jim pwkiVAw ]2] (434-16)
chhachhai chheejeh ahinis moorhay ki-o chhooteh jam paakrhi-aa. ||2||
Chhachha: You are wearing away, every night and day; you fool, how will you find release? You are held in the grip of death. ||2||

bbY bUJih nwhI mUVy Brim Buly qyrw jnmu gieAw ] (434-17)
babai boojheh naahee moorhay bharam bhulay tayraa janam ga-i-aa.
Babba: You do not understand, you fool; deluded by doubt, you are wasting your life.

Axhodw nwau DrwieE pwDw Avrw kw Bwru quDu lieAw ]3] (434-17)
anhodaa naa-o Dharaa-i-o paaDhaa avraa kaa bhaar tuDh la-i-aa. ||3||
Without justification, you call yourself a teacher; thus you take on the loads of others. ||3||

jjY joiq ihir leI qyrI mUVy AMiq gieAw pCuqwvihgw ] (434-18)
jajai jot hir la-ee tayree moorhay ant ga-i-aa pachhutaavhigaa.
Jajja: You have been robbed of your Light, you fool; in the end, you shall have to depart, and you shall regret and repent.

eyku sbdu qUM cInih nwhI iPir iPir jUnI Awvihgw ]4] (434-18)
ayk sabad tooN cheeneh naahee fir fir joonee aavhigaa. ||4||
You have not remembered the One Word of the Shabad, and so you shall have to enter the womb over and over again. ||4||

quDu isir iliKAw so pVu pMifq Avrw no n isKwil ibiKAw ] (434-19)
tuDh sir likhi-aa so parh pandit avraa no na sikhaal bikhi-aa.
Read that which is written on your forehead, O Pandit, and do not teach wickedness to others.
