ivxu gur pIrY ko Qwie n pweI ] (952-1)
vin gur peerai ko thaa-ay na paa-ee.
Without the Guru or a spiritual teacher, no one is accepted.

rwhu dswie EQY ko jwie ] (952-1)
raahu dasaa-ay othai ko jaa-ay.
They may be shown the way, but only a few go there.

krxI bwJhu iBsiq n pwie ] (952-1)
karnee baajhahu bhisat na paa-ay.
Without the karma of good actions, heaven is not attained.

jogI kY Gir jugiq dsweI ] (952-2)
jogee kai ghar jugat dasaa-ee.
The Way of Yoga is demonstrated in the Yogi's monastery.

iqqu kwrix kin muMdRw pweI ] (952-2)
tit kaaran kan mundraa paa-ee.
They wear ear-rings to show the way.

muMdRw pwie iPrY sMswir ] (952-2)
mundraa paa-ay firai sansaar.
Wearing ear-rings, they wander around the world.

ijQY ikQY isrjxhwru ] (952-3)
jithai kithai sirjanhaar.
The Creator Lord is everywhere.

jyqy jIA qyqy vwtwaU ] (952-3)
jaytay jee-a taytay vaataa-oo.
There are as many travellers as there are beings.

cIrI AweI iFl n kwaU ] (952-3)
cheeree aa-ee dhil na kaa-oo.
When one's death warrant is issued, there is no delay.

eyQY jwxY su jwie is\wxY ] (952-3)
aythai jaanai so jaa-ay sinjaanai.
One who knows the Lord here, realizes Him there as well.

horu PkVu ihMdU muslmwxY ] (952-4)
hor fakarh hindoo musalmaanai.
Others, whether Hindu or Muslim, are just babbling.

sBnw kw dir lyKw hoie ] (952-4)
sabhnaa kaa dar laykhaa ho-ay.
Everyone's account is read in the Court of the Lord;

krxI bwJhu qrY n koie ] (952-4)
karnee baajhahu tarai na ko-ay.
without the karma of good actions, no one crosses over.

sco scu vKwxY koie ] (952-4)
sacho sach vakhaanai ko-ay.
One who speaks the True Name of the True Lord,

nwnk AgY puC n hoie ]2] (952-5)
naanak agai puchh na ho-ay. ||2||
O Nanak, is not called to account hereafter. ||2||

pa-orhee.

har kaa mandar aakhee-ai kaa-i-aa kot garh.
The fortress of the body is called the Mansion of the Lord.

AMdir lwl jvyhrI gurmuiK hir nwmu pVu ] (952-6)
andar laal javayharee gurmukh har naam parh.
The rubies and gems are found within it; the Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord.

hir kw mMdru srIru Aiq sohxw hir hir nwmu idVu ] (952-6)
har kaa mandar sareer at sohnaa har har naam dirh.
The body, the Mansion of the Lord, is very beautiful, when the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is implanted deep within.

mnmuK Awip KuAwieAnu mwieAw moh inq kVu ] (952-7)
manmukh aap khu-aa-i-an maa-i-aa moh nit karh.
The self-willed manmukhs ruin themselves; they boil continuously in attachment to Maya.

sBnw swihbu eyku hY pUrY Bwig pwieAw jweI ]11] (952-7)
sabhnaa saahib ayk hai poorai bhaag paa-i-aa jaa-ee. ||11||
The One Lord is the Master of all. He is found only by perfect destiny. ||11||

nw siq duKIAw nw siq suKIAw nw siq pwxI jMq iPrih ] (952-8)
naa sat dukhee-aa naa sat sukhee-aa naa sat paanee jant fireh.
There is no Truth in suffering, there is no Truth in comfort. There is no Truth in wandering like animals through the water.

nw siq mUMf mufweI kysI nw siq piVAw dys iPrih ] (952-8)
naa sat moond mudaa-ee kaysee naa sat parhi-aa days fireh.
There is no Truth in shaving one's head; there is no Truth is studying the scriptures or wandering in foreign lands.

nw siq ruKI ibrKI pQr Awpu qCwvih duK shih ] (952-9)
naa sat rukhee birkhee pathar aap tachhaaveh dukh saheh.
There is no Truth in trees, plants or stones, in mutilating oneself or suffering in pain.

nw siq hsqI bDy sMgl nw siq gweI Gwhu crih ] (952-10)
naa sat hastee baDhay sangal naa sat gaa-ee ghaahu chareh.
There is no Truth in binding elephants in chains; there is no Truth in grazing cows.

ijsu hiQ isiD dyvY jy soeI ijs no dyie iqsu Awie imlY ] (952-10)
jis hath siDh dayvai jay so-ee jis no day-ay tis aa-ay milai.
He alone grants it, whose hands hold spritual perfection; he alone receives it, unto whom it is given.

naanak taa ka-o milai vadaa-ee jis ghat bheetar sabad ravai.
O Nanak, he alone is blessed with glorious greatness, whose heart is filled with the Word of the Shabad.

sabh ghat mayray ha-o sabhnaa andar jisahi khu-aa-ee tis ka-un kahai.
God says, all hearts are mine, and I am in all hearts. Who can explain this to one who is confused?

jisahi dikhaalaa vaatrhee tiseh bhulaavai ka-un.
Who can confuse that being, unto whom I have shown the Way?

jisahi bhulaa-ee panDh sir tiseh dikhaavai ka-un. ||1||
And who can show the Path to that being whom I have confused since the beginning of time? ||1||

so igrhI jo ingRhu krY ] (952-13)
so girhee jo nigarahu karai.
He alone is a householder, who restrains his passions

jpu qpu sMjmu BIiKAw krY ] (952-13)
jap tap sanjam bheekhi-aa karai.
and begs for meditation, austerity and self-discipline.

puMn dwn kw kry srIru ] (952-14)
punn daan kaa karay sareer.
He gives donations to charity with his body;

so igrhI gMgw kw nIru ] (952-14)
so girhee gangaa kaa neer.
such a householder is as pure as the water of the Ganges.

bolY eIsru siq srUpu ] (952-14)
bolai eesar sat saroop.
Says Eeshar, the Lord is the embodiment of Truth.

param tant meh raykh na roop. ||2||
The supreme essence of reality has no shape or form. ||2||

First Mehl:

so AauDUqI jo DUpY Awpu ] (952-15)
so a-uDhootee jo Dhoopai aap.
He alone is a detached hermit, who burns away his self-conceit.

iBiKAw Bojnu krY sMqwpu ] (952-15)
bhikhi-aa bhojan karai santaap.
He begs for suffering as his food.

AauhT ptx mih BIiKAw krY ] (952-15)
a-uhath patan meh bheekhi-aa karai.
In the city of the heart, he begs for charity.

so AauDUqI isv puir cVY ] (952-16)
so a-uDhootee siv pur charhai.
Such a renunciate ascends to the City of God.

bolY gorKu siq srUpu ] (952-16)
bolai gorakh sat saroop.
Says Gorakh, God is the embodiment of Truth;

param tant meh raykh na roop. ||3||
the supreme essence of reality has no shape or form. ||3||

First Mehl:

so audwsI ij pwly audwsu ] (952-17)
so udaasee je paalay udaas.
He alone is an Udasi, a shaven-headed renunciate, who embraces renunciation.

ArD aurD kry inrMjn vwsu ] (952-17)
araDh uraDh karay niranjan vaas.
He sees the Immaculate Lord dwelling in both the upper and lower regions.

cMd sUrj kI pwey gMiF ] (952-17)
chand sooraj kee paa-ay gandh.
He balances the sun and the moon energies.

iqsu audwsI kw pVY n kMDu ] (952-18)
tis udaasee kaa parhai na kanDh.
The body-wall of such an Udasi does not collapse.

bolY gopI cMdu siq srUpu ] (952-18)
bolai gopee chand sat saroop.
Says Gopi Chand, God is the embodiment of Truth;

so paakhandee je kaa-i-aa pakhaalay.
He alone is a Paakhandi, who cleanses his body of filth.

kwieAw kI Agin bRhmu prjwly ] (952-19)
kaa-i-aa kee agan barahm parjaalay.
The fire of his body illuminates God within.

supnY ibMdu n dyeI Jrxw ] (952-19)
supnai bind na day-ee jharnaa.
He does not waste his energy in wet dreams.
