Such a Paakhandi does not grow old or die.

bolai charpat sat saroop.
Says Charpat, God is the embodiment of Truth;

param tant meh raykh na roop. ||5||
the supreme essence of reality has no shape or form. ||5||

so bairaagee je ultay barahm.
He alone is a Bairaagi, who turns himself toward God.

gagan mandal meh ropai thamm.
In the Tenth Gate, the sky of the mind, he erects his pillar.

Aihinis AMqir rhY iDAwin ] (953-2)
ahinis antar rahai Dhi-aan.
Night and day, he remains in deep inner meditation.

tay bairaagee sat samaan.
Such a Bairaagi is just like the True Lord.

bolai bharthar sat saroop.
Says Bhart'har, God is the embodiment of Truth;

How is evil eradicated? How can the true way of life be found?

kann parhaa-ay ki-aa khaajai bhugat.
What is the use of piercing the ears, or begging for food?

Awsiq nwsiq eyko nwau ] (953-4)
aasat naasat ayko naa-o.
Throughout existence and non-existence, there is only the Name of the One Lord.

kauxu su AKru ijqu rhY ihAwau ] (953-4)
ka-un so akhar jit rahai hi-aa-o.
What is that Word, which holds the heart in its place?

DUp Cwv jy sm kir shY ] (953-5)
Dhoop chhaav jay sam kar sahai.
When you look alike upon sunshine and shade,

qw nwnku AwKY guru ko khY ] (953-5)
taa naanak aakhai gur ko kahai.
says Nanak, then the Guru will speak to you.

chhi-a vartaaray varteh poot.
The students follow the six systems.

nw sMswrI nw AauDUq ] (953-6)
naa sansaaree naa a-uDhoot.
They are neither worldly people, nor detached renunciates.

inrMkwir jo rhY smwie ] (953-6)
nirankaar jo rahai samaa-ay.
One who remains absorbed in the Formless Lord

kwhy BIiKAw mMgix jwie ]7] (953-6)
kaahay bheekhi-aa mangan jaa-ay. ||7||
- why should he go out begging? ||7||

pa-orhee.
Pauree:

hir mMdru soeI AwKIAY ijQhu hir jwqw ] (953-7)
har mandar so-ee aakhee-ai jithahu har jaataa.
That alone is said to be the Lord's temple, where the Lord is known.

mwns dyh gur bcnI pwieAw sBu Awqm rwmu pCwqw ] (953-7)
maanas dayh gur bachnee paa-i-aa sabh aatam raam pachhaataa.
In the human body, the Guru's Word is found, when one understands that the Lord, the Supreme Soul, is in all.

bwhir mUil n KojIAY Gr mwih ibDwqw ] (953-8)
baahar mool na khojee-ai ghar maahi biDhaataa.
Don't look for Him outside your self. The Creator, the Architect of Destiny, is within the home of your own heart.

manmukh har mandar kee saar na jaannee tinee janam gavaataa.
The self-willed manmukh does not appreciate the value of the Lord's temple; they waste away and lose their lives.

sabh meh ik varatdaa gur sabdee paa-i-aa jaa-ee. ||12||
The One Lord is pervading in all; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He can be found. ||12||

mUrKu hovY so suxY mUrK kw khxw ] (953-9)
moorakh hovai so sunai moorakh kaa kahnaa.
Only a fool listens to the words of the fool.

mUrK ky ikAw lKx hY ikAw mUrK kw krxw ] (953-10)
moorakh kay ki-aa lakhan hai ki-aa moorakh kaa karnaa.
What are the signs of the fool? What does the fool do?

mUrKu Ehu ij mugDu hY AhMkwry mrxw ] (953-10)
moorakh oh je mugaDh hai ahaNkaaray marnaa.
A fool is stupid; he dies of egotism.

eyqu kmwxY sdw duKu duK hI mih rhxw ] (953-11)
ayt kamaanai sadaa dukh dukh hee meh rahnaa.
His actions always bring him pain; he lives in pain.

Aiq ipAwrw pvY KUih ikhu sMjmu krxw ] (953-11)
at pi-aaraa pavai khoohi kihu sanjam karnaa.
If someone's beloved friend falls into the pit, what can be used to pull him out?

gurmuiK hoie su kry vIcwru Esu Ailpqo rhxw ] (953-11)
gurmukh ho-ay so karay veechaar os alipato rahnaa.
One who becomes Gurmukh contemplates the Lord, and remains detached.

hir nwmu jpY Awip auDrY Esu ipCY fubdy BI qrxw ] (953-12)
har naam japai aap uDhrai os pichhai dubday bhee tarnaa.
Chanting the Lord's Name, he saves himself, and he carries across those who are drowning as well.

nwnk jo iqsu BwvY so kry jo dyie su shxw ]1] (953-12)
naanak jo tis bhaavai so karay jo day-ay so sahnaa. ||1||
O Nanak, he acts in accordance with the Will of God; he endures whatever he is given. ||1||

naanak aakhai ray manaa sunee-ai sikh sahee.
Says Nanak, listen, O mind, to the True Teachings.

lyKw rbu mMgysIAw bYTw kiF vhI ] (953-13)
laykhaa rab mangaysee-aa baithaa kadh vahee.
Opening His ledger, God will call you to account.

qlbw pausin AwkIAw bwkI ijnw rhI ] (953-14)
talbaa pa-usan aakee-aa baakee jinaa rahee.
Those rebels who have unpaid accounts shall be called out.

AjrweIlu Prysqw hosI Awie qeI ] (953-14)
ajraa-eel faraystaa hosee aa-ay ta-ee.
Azraa-eel, the Angel of Death, shall be appointed to punish them.

Awvxu jwxu n suJeI BIVI glI PhI ] (953-15)
aavan jaan na sujh-ee bheerhee galee fahee.
They will find no way to escape coming and going in reincarnation; they are trapped in the narrow path.

kUV inKuty nwnkw EVik sic rhI ]2] (953-15)
koorh nikhutay naankaa orhak sach rahee. ||2||
Falsehood will come to an end, O Nanak, and Truth will prevail in the end. ||2||

hir kw sBu srIru hY hir riv rihAw sBu AwpY ] (953-16)
har kaa sabh sareer hai har rav rahi-aa sabh aapai.
The body and everything belongs to the Lord; the Lord Himself is all-pervading.

hir kI kImiq n pvY ikCu khxu n jwpY ] (953-16)
har kee keemat na pavai kichh kahan na jaapai.
The Lord's value cannot be estimated; nothing can be said about it.

gur prswdI swlwhIAY hir BgqI rwpY ] (953-17)
gur parsaadee salaahee-ai har bhagtee raapai.
By Guru's Grace, one praises the Lord, imbued with feelings of devotion.

sabh man tan hari-aa ho-i-aa ahaNkaar gavaapai.
The mind and body are totally rejuvenated, and egotism is eradicated.

sBu ikCu hir kw Kylu hY gurmuiK iksY buJweI ]13] (953-18)
sabh kichh har kaa khayl hai gurmukh kisai bujhaa-ee. ||13||
Everything is the play of the Lord. The Gurmukh understands this. ||13||

shMsr dwn dy ieMdRü roAwieAw ] (953-18)
sahaNsar daan day indar ro-aa-i-aa.
Branded with a thousand marks of disgrace, Indra cried in shame.

prs rwmu rovY Gir AwieAw ] (953-19)
paras raam rovai ghar aa-i-aa.
Paras Raam returned home crying.

AjY su rovY BIiKAw Kwie ] (953-19)
ajai so rovai bheekhi-aa khaa-ay.
Ajai cried and wept, when he was made to eat the manure he had given, pretending it was charity.

AYsI drgh imlY sjwie ] (953-19)
aisee dargeh milai sajaa-ay.
Such is the punishment received in the Court of the Lord.

rovai raam nikaalaa bha-i-aa.
Rama wept when he was sent into exile,
