ਸਚਿਆਰ ਸਿਖ ਬਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ਘਾਲਨਿ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਨ ਲਭਨੀ ਕਿਤੈ ਥਾਇ ਭਾਲੇ ॥

Sachiaar sikʱ bahi saṫgur paas gʱaalan kooṛi▫aar na labʱnee kiṫæ ṫʱaa▫é bʱaalé.

The truthful Sikhs sit by the True Guru’s side and serve Him. The false ones search, but find no place of rest.

ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੁਖਾਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਮੁਹ ਭਲੇਰੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਦਯਿ ਗਾਲੇ ॥

Jinaa saṫgur kaa aakʱi▫aa sukʱaavæ naahee ṫinaa muh bʱaléré firėh ḋa▫yi gaalé.

Those who are not pleased with the Words of the True Guru - their faces are cursed, and they wander around, condemned by God.

ਜਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ਸੇ ਕਿਚਰਕੁ ਵੇਰਾਈਅਨਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੇਤਾਲੇ ॥

Jin anḋar pareeṫ nahee har kéree sé kichrak véraa▫ee▫an manmukʱ béṫaalé.

Those who do not have the Love of the Lord within their hearts - how long can those demonic, self-willed Manmukhs be consoled?

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁ ਥਾਇ ਰਖੈ ਓਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਥੁ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

Saṫgur no milæ so aapṇaa man ṫʱaa▫é rakʱæ oh aap varṫæ aapṇee vaṫʱ naalé.

One who meets the True Guru, keeps his mind in its own place; he spends only his own assets.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕਨਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਵਖਿ ਕਢੈ ਠਗਵਾਲੇ ॥੧॥

Jan Naanak iknaa gur mél sukʱ ḋévæ ik aapé vakʱ kadʱæ tʱagvaalé. ||1||

O servant Nanak! Some are united with the Guru; to some, the Lord grants peace, while others - deceitful cheats - suffer in isolation. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:

ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਦਯਿ ਆਦੇ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

Jinaa anḋar naam niḋʱaan har ṫin ké kaaj ḋa▫yi aaḋé raas.

Those who have the treasure of the Lord’s Name deep within their hearts - the Lord resolves their affairs.

ਤਿਨ ਚੂਕੀ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੀ ਲੋਕਨ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅੰਗੁ ਕਰਿ ਬੈਠਾ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

Ṫin chookee muhṫaajee lokan kee har parabʱ ang kar bætʱaa paas.

They are no longer subservient to other people; the Lord God sits by them, at their side.

ਜਾਂ ਕਰਤਾ ਵਲਿ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵਲਿ ਸਭਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

Jaaᴺ karṫaa val ṫaa sabʱ ko val sabʱ ḋarsan ḋékʱ karahi saabaas.

When the Creator is on their side, then everyone is on their side. Beholding their vision, everyone applauds them.

ਸਾਹੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਆਇ ਕਰਹਿ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ॥

Saahu paaṫisaahu sabʱ har kaa kee▫aa sabʱ jan ka▫o aa▫é karahi rahraas.

Kings and emperors are all created by the Lord; they all come and bow in reverence to the Lord’s humble servant.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਵਡਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Gur pooré kee vadee vadi▫aa▫ee har vadaa sév aṫul sukʱ paa▫i▫aa.

Great is the greatness of the Perfect Guru. Serving the Great Lord, I have obtained immeasurable peace.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਿਤ ਬਖਸੇ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥

Gur pooræ ḋaan ḋee▫aa har nihchal niṫ bakʱsé chaṛæ savaa▫i▫aa.

The Lord has bestowed this eternal gift upon the Perfect Guru; His blessings increase day by day.

ਕੋਈ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਸੋ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥

Ko▫ee ninḋak vadi▫aa▫ee ḋékʱ na sakæ so karṫæ aap pachaa▫i▫aa.

The slanderer, who cannot endure His greatness, is destroyed by the Creator Himself.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਬੋਲੈ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੇ ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਸਦਾ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥

Jan Naanak guṇ bolæ karṫé ké bʱagṫaa no saḋaa rakʱ▫ḋaa aa▫i▫aa. ||2||

Servant Nanak chants the Glorious Praises of the Creator, who protects His devotees forever. ||2||

Pa▫oṛee.

Pauree:

ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਗਮ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਵਡ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਣਾ ॥

Ṫoo saahib agam ḋa▫i▫aal hæ vad ḋaaṫaa ḋaaṇaa.

You, O Lord and Master, are inaccessible and merciful; You are the Great Giver, All-knowing.

ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੋ ਦਿਸਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤੂਹੈਂ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ॥

Ṫuḋʱ jévad mæ hor ko ḋis naa aavee ṫoohæᴺ sugʱaṛ méræ man bʱaaṇaa.

I can see no other as great as You; O Lord of Wisdom, You are pleasing to my mind.

ਮੋਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਆਵਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਚਲਣਹਾਰਾ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

Moh kutamb ḋis aavḋaa sabʱ chalaṇhaaraa aavaṇ jaaṇaa.

Emotional attachment to your family and everything you see is temporary, coming and going.

ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਚੇ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦੇ ਸੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਕੂੜਾ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਣਾ ॥

Jo bin saché horaṫ chiṫ laa▫iḋé sé kooṛi▫aar kooṛaa ṫin maaṇaa.

Those who attach their consciousness to anything except the True Lord are false, and false is their pride.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਚੇ ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਅਜਾਣਾ ॥੧੦॥

Naanak sach ḋʱi▫aa▫é ṫoo bin saché pach pach mu▫é ajaaṇaa. ||10||

O Nanak! Meditate on the True Lord; without the True Lord, the ignorant rot away and putrefy to death. ||10||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੪ ॥

Shalok, Fourth Mehl:

ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਸਤ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਦਿਚੈ ਪਿਛੋ ਦੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

Ago ḋé saṫ bʱaa▫o na ḋichæ pichʱo ḋé aakʱi▫aa kamm na aavæ.

At first, he did not show respect to the Guru; later, he offered excuses, but it is no use.

ਅਧ ਵਿਚਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਗਲੀ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

Aḋʱ vich firæ manmukʱ véchaaraa galee ki▫o sukʱ paavæ.

The wretched, self-willed Manmukhs wander around and are stuck mid-way; how can they find peace by mere words?

ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੁ ਕੂੜੀ ਆਵੈ ਕੂੜੀ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

Jis anḋar pareeṫ nahee saṫgur kee so kooṛee aavæ kooṛee jaavæ.

Those who have no love for the True Guru within their hearts come with falsehood, and leave with falsehood.

ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ॥

Jé kirpaa karé méraa har parabʱ karṫaa ṫaaᴺ saṫgur paarbarahm naḋree aavæ.

When my Lord God, the Creator, grants His Grace, then they come to see the True Guru as the Supreme Lord God.

ਤਾ ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਾੜਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥

Ṫaa api▫o peevæ sabaḋ gur kéraa sabʱ kaaṛaa anḋésaa bʱaram chukʱaavæ.

Then, they drink the Nectar, the Word of the Guru’s Shabad; all burning, anxiety, and doubts are eliminated.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

Saḋaa anand rahæ ḋin raaṫee jan Naanak an▫ḋin har guṇ gaavæ. ||1||

They remain in ecstasy forever, day and night; O servant Nanak! They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1||

Mėhlaa 4.

Fourth Mehl:

ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਅਖਾਏ ਸੁ ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥

Gur saṫgur kaa jo sikʱ akʱaa▫é so bʱalké utʱ har naam ḋʱi▫aavæ.

One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru, the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord’s Name.

ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਭਲਕੇ ਪਰਭਾਤੀ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ॥

Uḋam karé bʱalké parbʱaaṫee isnaan karé amriṫ sar naavæ.

Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar.

ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਦੋਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

Upḋés guroo har har jap jaapæ sabʱ kilvikʱ paap ḋokʱ lėh jaavæ.

Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased.

ਫਿਰਿ ਚੜੈ ਦਿਵਸੁ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵੈ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥

Fir chaṛæ ḋivas gurbaaṇee gaavæ bahḋi▫aa utʱ▫ḋi▫aa har naam ḋʱi▫aavæ.

Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord’s Name.

ਜੋ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

Jo saas giraas ḋʱi▫aa▫é méraa har har so gursikʱ guroo man bʱaavæ.

One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru’s Mind.
