ilKy bwJhu suriq nwhI boil boil gvweIAY ] (566-1)
likhay baajhahu surat naahee bol bol gavaa-ee-ai.
Without pre-ordained destiny, understanding is not attained; talking and babbling, one wastes his life away.

ijQY jwie bhIAY Blw khIAY suriq sbdu ilKweIAY ] (566-1)
jithai jaa-ay bahee-ai bhalaa kahee-ai surat sabad likhaa-ee-ai.
Wherever you go and sit, speak well, and write the Word of the Shabad in your consciousness.

kwieAw kUiV ivgwiV kwhy nweIAY ]1] (566-2)
kaa-i-aa koorh vigaarh kaahay naa-ee-ai. ||1||
Why bother to wash the body which is polluted by falsehood? ||1||

qw mY kihAw khxu jw quJY khwieAw ] (566-2)
taa mai kahi-aa kahan jaa tujhai kahaa-i-aa.
When I have spoken, I spoke as You made me speak.

AMimRqu hir kw nwmu myrY min BwieAw ] (566-3)
amrit har kaa naam mayrai man bhaa-i-aa.
The Ambrosial Name of the Lord is pleasing to my mind.

nwmu mITw mnih lwgw dUiK fyrw FwihAw ] (566-3)
naam meethaa maneh laagaa dookh dayraa dhaahi-aa.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, seems so sweet to my mind; it has destroyed the dwelling of pain.

sUKu mn mih Awie visAw jwim qY PurmwieAw ] (566-4)
sookh man meh aa-ay vasi-aa jaam tai furmaa-i-aa.
Peace came to dwell in my mind, when You gave the Order.

ndir quDu Ardwis myrI ijMin Awpu aupwieAw ] (566-4)
nadar tuDh ardaas mayree jinn aap upaa-i-aa.
It is Yours to bestow Your Grace, and it is mine to speak this prayer; You created Yourself.

qw mY kihAw khxu jw quJY khwieAw ]2] (566-5)
taa mai kahi-aa kahan jaa tujhai kahaa-i-aa. ||2||
When I have spoken, I spoke as You made me speak. ||2||

vwrI Ksmu kFwey ikrqu kmwvxw ] (566-5)
vaaree khasam kadhaa-ay kirat kamaavanaa.
The Lord and Master gives them their turn, according to the deeds they have done.

mMdw iksY n AwiK JgVw pwvxw ] (566-5)
mandaa kisai na aakh jhagrhaa paavnaa.
Do not speak ill of others, or get involved in arguments.

nh pwie JgVw suAwim syqI Awip Awpu v\wvxw ] (566-6)
nah paa-ay jhagrhaa su-aam saytee aap aap vanjaavanaa.
Do not get into arguments with the Lord, or you shall ruin yourself.

ijsu nwil sMgiq kir srIkI jwie ikAw rUAwvxw ] (566-6)
jis naal sangat kar sareekee jaa-ay ki-aa roo-aavanaa.
If you challenge the One, with whom you must abide, you will cry in the end.

jo dyie shxw mnih khxw AwiK nwhI vwvxw ] (566-7)
jo day-ay sahnaa maneh kahnaa aakh naahee vaavnaa.
Be satisfied with what God gives you; tell your mind not to complain uselessly.

vaaree khasam kadhaa-ay kirat kamaavanaa. ||3||
The Lord and Master gives them their turn, according to the deeds they have done. ||3||

sB aupweIAnu Awip Awpy ndir kry ] (566-8)
sabh upaa-ee-an aap aapay nadar karay.
He Himself created all, and He blesses then with His Glance of Grace.

kauVw koie n mwgY mITw sB mwgY ] (566-8)
ka-urhaa ko-ay na maagai meethaa sabh maagai.
No one asks for that which is bitter; everyone asks for sweets.

sBu koie mITw mMig dyKY Ksm BwvY so kry ] (566-8)
sabh ko-ay meethaa mang daykhai khasam bhaavai so karay.
Let everyone ask for sweets, and behold, it is as the Lord wills.

ikCu puMn dwn Anyk krxI nwm quil n smsry ] (566-9)
kichh punn daan anayk karnee naam tul na samasray.
Giving donations to charity, and performing various religious rituals are not equal to the contemplation of the Naam.

naankaa jin naam mili-aa karam ho-aa Dhur kaday.
O Nanak, those who are blessed with the Naam have had such good karma pre-ordained.

sabh upaa-ee-an aap aapay nadar karay. ||4||1||
He Himself created all, and He blesses them with His Glance of Grace. ||4||1||

karahu da-i-aa tayraa naam vakhaanaa.
Show mercy to me, that I may chant Your Name.

sabh upaa-ee-ai aap aapay sarab samaanaa.
You Yourself created all, and You are pervading among all.

sarbay samaanaa aap toohai upaa-ay DhanDhai laa-ee-aa.
You Yourself are pervading among all, and You link them to their tasks.

ik tujh hee kee-ay raajay iknaa bhikh bhavaa-ee-aa.
Some, You have made kings, while others go about begging.

loBu mohu quJu kIAw mITw eyqu Brim Bulwxw ] (566-12)
lobh moh tujh kee-aa meethaa ayt bharam bhulaanaa.
You have made greed and emotional attachment seem sweet; they are deluded by this delusion.

sdw dieAw krhu ApxI qwim nwmu vKwxw ]1] (566-13)
sadaa da-i-aa karahu apnee taam naam vakhaanaa. ||1||
Be ever merciful to me; only then can I chant Your Name. ||1||

nwmu qyrw hY swcw sdw mY min Bwxw ] (566-13)
naam tayraa hai saachaa sadaa mai man bhaanaa.
Your Name is True, and ever pleasing to my mind.

dUKu gieAw suKu Awie smwxw ] (566-14)
dookh ga-i-aa sukh aa-ay samaanaa.
My pains are dispelled, and I am permeated with peace.

gwvin suir nr suGV sujwxw ] (566-14)
gaavan sur nar sugharh sujaanaa.
The angels, the mortals and the silent sages sing of You.

suir nr suGV sujwx gwvih jo qyrY min Bwvhy ] (566-15)
sur nar sugharh sujaan gaavahi jo tayrai man bhaavhay.
The angels, the mortals and the silent sages sing of You; they are pleasing to Your Mind.

mwieAw mohy cyqih nwhI Aihlw jnmu gvwvhy ] (566-15)
maa-i-aa mohay cheeteh naahee ahilaa janam gavaavhay.
Enticed by Maya, they do not remember the Lord, and they waste away their lives in vain.

ieik mUV mugD n cyqih mUly jo AwieAw iqsu jwxw ] (566-16)
ik moorh mugaDh na cheeteh moolay jo aa-i-aa tis jaanaa.
Some fools and idiots never think of the Lord; whoever has come, shall have to go.

nwmu qyrw sdw swcw soie mY min Bwxw ]2] (566-16)
naam tayraa sadaa saachaa so-ay mai man bhaanaa. ||2||
Your Name is True, and ever pleasing to my mind. ||2||

qyrw vKqu suhwvw AMimRqu qyrI bwxI ] (566-17)
tayraa vakhat suhaavaa amrit tayree banee.
Beauteous is Your time, O Lord; the Bani of Your Word is Ambrosial Nectar.

syvk syvih Bwau kir lwgw swau prwxI ] (566-17)
sayvak sayveh bhaa-o kar laagaa saa-o paraanee.
Your servants serve You with love; these mortals are attached to Your essence.

swau pRwxI iqnw lwgw ijnI AMimRqu pwieAw ] (566-17)
saa-o paraanee tinaa laagaa jinee amrit paa-i-aa.
Those mortals are attached to Your essence, who are blessed with the Ambrosial Name.

nwim qyrY joie rwqy inq cVih svwieAw ] (566-18)
naam tayrai jo-ay raatay nit charheh savaa-i-aa.
Those who are imbued with Your Name, prosper more and more, day by day.

ieku krmu Drmu n hoie sMjmu jwim n eyku pCwxI ] (566-18)
ik karam Dharam na ho-ay sanjam jaam na ayk pachhaanee.
Some do not practice good deeds, or live righteously; nor do they practice self-restraint. They do not realize the One Lord.

vKqu suhwvw sdw qyrw AMimRq qyrI bwxI ]3] (566-19)
vakhat suhaavaa sadaa tayraa amrit tayree banee. ||3||
Ever beauteous is Your time, O Lord; the Bani of Your Word is Ambrosial Nectar. ||3||

hau bilhwrI swcy nwvY ] (566-19)
ha-o balihaaree saachay naavai.
I am a sacrifice to the True Name.
