and separated from Sita and Lakhshman.

rovY dhisru lµk gvwie ] ijin sIqw AwdI faurU vwie ] (954-1)
rovai dehsir lank gavaa-ay. jin seetaa aadee da-uroo vaa-ay.
The ten-headed Raawan, who stole away Sita with the beat of his tambourine, wept when he lost Sri Lanka.

roveh paa^Ndav bha-ay majoor. jin kai su-aamee rahat hadoor.
The Paandavas once lived in the Presence of the Lord; they were made slaves, and wept.

rovai janmayjaa khu-ay ga-i-aa.
Janmayjaa wept, that he had lost his way.

eykI kwrix pwpI BieAw ] (954-3)
aykee kaaran paapee bha-i-aa.
One mistake, and he became a sinner.

roveh saykh masaa-ik peer.
The Shaykhs, Pirs and spiritual teachers weep;

AMiq kwil mqu lwgY BIV ] (954-3)
ant kaal mat laagai bheerh.
at the very last instant, they suffer in agony.

roveh raajay kann parhaa-ay.
The kings weep - their ears are cut;

Gir Gir mwgih BIiKAw jwie ] (954-4)
ghar ghar maageh bheekhi-aa jaa-ay.
they go begging from house to house.

roveh kirpan sa^Ncheh Dhan jaa-ay.
The miser weeps; he has to leave behind the wealth he has gathered.

pMifq rovih igAwnu gvwie ] (954-4)
pandit roveh gi-aan gavaa-ay.
The Pandit, the religious scholar, weeps when his learning is gone.

bwlI rovY nwih Bqwru ] (954-5)
baalee rovai naahi bhataar.
The young woman weeps because she has no husband.

nwnk duKIAw sBu sMswru ] (954-5)
naanak dukhee-aa sabh sansaar.
O Nanak, the whole world is suffering.

mMny nwau soeI ijix jwie ] (954-5)
mannay naa-o so-ee jin jaa-ay.
He alone is victorious, who believes in the Lord's Name.

a-uree karam na laykhai laa-ay. ||1||
No other action is of any account. ||1||

Meditation, austerity and everything come through belief in the Lord's Name. All other actions are useless.

naanak mani-aa mannee-ai bujhee-ai gur parsaad. ||2||
O Nanak, believe in the One who is worth believing in. By Guru's Grace, he is realized. ||2||

kaa-i-aa hans Dhur mayl kartai likh paa-i-aa.
The union of the body and the soul-swan was pre-ordained by the Creator Lord.

sabh meh gupat varatdaa gurmukh paragtaa-i-aa.
He is hidden, and yet pervading all. He is revealed to the Gurmukh.

gun gaavai gun uchrai gun maahi samaa-i-aa.
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and chanting His Praises, one merges in His Glories.

sachee banee sach hai sach mayl milaa-i-aa.
True is the True Word of the Guru's Bani. One unites in Union with the True Lord.

sabh kichh aapay aap hai aapay day-ay vadi-aa-ee. ||14||
He Himself is everything; He Himself grants glorious greatness. ||14||

naanak anDhaa ho-ay kai ratnaa parkhan jaa-ay.
O Nanak, the blind man may go to appraise the jewels,

ratnaa saar na jaan-ee aavai aap lakhaa-ay. ||1||
but he will not know their value; he will return home after exposing his ignorance. ||1||

ratnaa kayree guthlee ratnee kholee aa-ay.
The Jeweller has come, and opened up the bag of jewels.

vakhar tai vanjaari-aa duhaa rahee samaa-ay.
The merchandise and the merchant are merged together.

jin gun palai naankaa maanak vanjahi say-ay.
They alone purchase the gem, O Nanak, who have virtue in their purse.

ratnaa saar na jaannee anDhay vateh lo-ay. ||2||
Those who do not appreciate the value of the jewels, wander like blind men in the world. ||2||

na-o darvaajay kaa-i-aa kot hai dasvai gupat rakheejai.
The fortress of the body has nine gates; the tenth gate is kept hidden.

bajar kapaat na khulnee gur sabad khuleejai.
The rigid door is not open; only through the Word of the Guru's Shabad can it be opened.

Anhd vwjy Duin vjdy gur sbid suxIjY ] (954-13)
anhad vaajay Dhun vajday gur sabad suneejai.
The unstruck sound current resounds and vibrates there. The Word of the Guru's Shabad is heard.

tit ghat antar chaannaa kar bhagat mileejai.
Deep within the nucleus of the heart, the Divine Light shines forth. Through devotional worship, one meets the Lord.

sabh meh ayk varatdaa jin aapay rachan rachaa-ee. ||15||
The One Lord is pervading and permeating all. He Himself created the creation. ||15||

anDhay kai raahi dasi-ai anDhaa ho-ay so jaa-ay.
He is truly blind, who follows the way shown by the blind man.

hoie sujwKw nwnkw so ikau auJiV pwie ] (954-16)
ho-ay sujaakhaa naankaa so ki-o ujharh paa-ay.
O Nanak, why should the one who can see, get lost?

AMDy eyih n AwKIAin ijn muiK loiex nwih ] (954-16)
anDhay ayhi na aakhee-an jin mukh lo-in naahi.
Do not call them blind, who have no eyes in their face.

AMDy syeI nwnkw Ksmhu GuQy jwih ]1] (954-16)
anDhay say-ee naankaa khasmahu ghuthay jaahi. ||1||
They alone are blind, O Nanak, who wander away from their Lord and Master. ||1||

swihib AMDw jo kIAw kry sujwKw hoie ] (954-17)
saahib anDhaa jo kee-aa karay sujaakhaa ho-ay.
One whom the Lord has made blind - the Lord can make him see again.

jyhw jwxY qyho vrqY jy sau AwKY koie ] (954-17)
jayhaa jaanai tayho vartai jay sa-o aakhai ko-ay.
He acts only as he knows, although he may be spoken to a hundred times.

ijQY su vsqu n jwpeI Awpy vrqau jwix ] (954-18)
jithai so vasat na jaap-ee aapay varta-o jaan.
Where the real thing is not seen, self-conceit prevails there - know this well.

nwnk gwhku ikau ley skY n vsqu pCwix ]2] (954-18)
naanak gaahak ki-o la-ay sakai na vasat pachhaan. ||2||
O Nanak, how can the purshaser purchase the real thing, if he cannot recognize it? ||2||

so ikau AMDw AwKIAY ij hukmhu AMDw hoie ] (954-19)
so ki-o anDhaa aakhee-ai je hukmahu anDhaa ho-ay.
How can someone be called blind, if he was made blind by the Lord's Command?

nwnk hukmu n buJeI AMDw khIAY soie ]3] (954-19)
naanak hukam na bujh-ee anDhaa kahee-ai so-ay. ||3||
O Nanak, one who does not understand the Hukam of the Lord's Command should be called blind. ||3||
